In the US a decision was made to draw the positive/negative line for a test at a level of sensitivity that no one else is following. As a result...as pointed out above...we are seeing a s**t load of people testing positive who either aren't sick now or carried such an insignificant viral load that they were never a danger to anyone.
YOU aren't taking the fall out of this disastrous policy of shutting society down over a virus that poses a real threat to a very specific set of people seriously. Consider the increase in suicides, drug overdoses, bankruptcies,..look at all the people who didn't seek healthcare for life threatening conditions ...think of all the people who are suffering from depression and have nowhere to turn because they've been isolated from everything and everyone they know. The people who died alone and the families who weren't allowed to mourn them properly...let alone visit them to say goodbye. Meanwhile George Floyd...a man who died with 3x the level of fentanyl is his system to cause a death by overdose gets a virtual State funeral. Congressman Lewis got the same treatment...why was a proper funeral OK for them, but not the rest of the country?
That's not science..it's cruelty.
Gavin Newsom closes gyms in California and buries skateboard parks under tons of sand. Meanwhile...the gyms that serve government officials and their pals stay open. Beauty salons are closed to everyone but Nancy Pelosi. That's science?
People everywhere are being forced to wear masks when in public...but out West they're telling people that those masks won't help against the smoke from the fires because the harmful particles in the smoke are so tiny a mask won't filter them. The problem with that logic is that those particles in the smoke are bigger than the microscopic virus everyone is in panic over. That's science? no..it's a fu**ing JOKE.
Back in March when not much was known about this virus...I was good with shutting things down for a few weeks to get a handle on things. But in states like California and Michigan where autocrats are imposing one set of rules on the people and another on themselves and their cronies...I'm smart enough to see that charade for what it really is...bullshit
You say I'm against science...I've looked at the science...I am not against science. I'm against mendacity in the name of public policy.

The MAC is considering an eight-game season in February. ESPN is interested.

ESPN is interested? The same ESPN that showed cornhole on repeat during quarantine? ESPN better be ready to fund it. BGSU Athletics is already operating on a 6 million dollar deficit from Bob's cooked budget, and furlough Friday's are just the tip of the iceberg of what is around the corner. Student fees can't pay both inflated salaries & scholarships for fellow students, as borderline criminal as they are anyway.

Moving the season to February to appease ESPN is just so.....MAC. Anything to please the Gods of Cable

The Big Ten is officially back, starting October 24.

Money to pay administrators off the labor of amateur athletes, doesn’t grow on trees. They did a nice job of getting out of all guarantee money to out of conference opponents and caved just in time to keep the fans. The MAC reaction this week should be laugh out loud funny. For the MAC it’s all about $$$$ and they are on financial fumes.mbenecke wrote:The Big Ten is officially back, starting October 24.

For a couple pennies on the dollar. ESPN wants content. Nobody will watch these games, just as they've never watched any other MAC games. So ESPN will want these games in Feb, so they have content, then they'll make sure that they show the ratings (or lack thereof) to ensure we still get nothing financially.Flipper wrote:Moving the season to February to appease ESPN is just so.....MAC. This plan will not make any additional money for this conference, I'm sure. Will just serve as yet another nail in the coffin of burying MAC hoops in an attempt to breathe life into the long dead corpse that is MAC football.

The same ESPN that pays the MAC $875,000 per school per year to air our football games.guest44 wrote:Schadenfreude wrote:The MAC is considering an eight-game season in February. ESPN is interested.

The Big Ten is doing a really interesting championship. All teams will have a final game. The winners of each division play in the championship game. Then 2 vs 2, 3 vs 3, etc.
I have to wonder if floating divisions are in the future. The setup for it is there. I love the idea of floating divisions and the Big Ten is the right one to do that idea given conference history. Michigan and Wisconsin played in 2010 and did not play again until 2016 thanks to screwy divisions. Michigan and Wisconsin have far more history together than any Big Ten team will ever have with Maryland or Rutgers. Floating divisions result in randomness which statistically should result in more common matchups.

I do wonder if the MAC got this out there knowing that the Big Ten was about to announce a plan to go forward after all and wanting to placate fans, players, and their families.Schadenfreude wrote:The MAC is considering an eight-game season in February. ESPN is interested.

ESPN makes schools pay for all production costs and each school must provide programming for a certain amount of events for ESPN3. It isn’t a great deal by any means.Schadenfreude wrote:The same ESPN that pays the MAC $875,000 per school per year to air our football games.guest44 wrote:Schadenfreude wrote:The MAC is considering an eight-game season in February. MAC Football is digging their own grave. Problem is they may bury several additional sports before that in an attempt to keep football afloat.

Of course the MAC got this out there, probably given by BGSU to the Blade try to placate people with another plan with very little likelihood. In other words, this spring plan is as likely to happen, as it was in June that BGSU Athletics would generate 20 million in revenues during a pandemic.
Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
One would think now would be the time for the small conferences to push for an actual playoff (and bigger share of that money). With the non-conference games gone this year, there's no real way to compare conferences. It's only right that each conference gets a representative in the playoffs.hammb wrote:For a couple pennies on the dollar. ESPN wants content. Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
Having a "spring" season is stupid. All it does is potentially screw up next Fall in a much bigger way. Coaches don't want their players basically playing two seasons of football in one calendar year -- it's too hard on the body. It will increase the risk of injury by quite a bit as a fatigued player is more likely to get hurt. The MAC and a lot of other smaller conferences cancelled too early (as did the B1G). By now, there would be a much safer way to go forward with a season, especially given the availability of quick tests. What's done is done on the cancellation at this point...but I'd prefer they just not have a football season than push it to the Spring.
