Eh, I kinda think it’s funny. The officiating was truly egregious for the first 2 1/2 quarters. I view it more as the coach having his players’ backs, but without showing anger or saying something directly that could get him in trouble.mbenecke wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 9:06 pmAnd then Coach Lewis tweets a photo of his daughter and her friend for Halloween, labeling them “our week 9 opponents” as his daughter wears Buffalo gear and the friend is a ref.mbenecke wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 7:45 amTo be fair, I think when they’re talking about “beating 2 teams”, I think they’re talking about beating themselves. That can still be a commentary on the officials, but I don’t know if they would be going on social media after a game and tweeting stuff like that. However, maybe that’s the reason it’s intentionally left vague.
Oof. I understand the frustration, and I share it, but that feels overboard for a coach to do that online.

I was a grad student at Purdue. Real story here, a rookie officer in the West Lafayette police department once pulled over the Boilermaker Special - the official mascot of Purdue, for speeding about three mph over the limit down a hill. The rookie officer took a ton of s**t for it of course. He was within his rights to pull over the Boilermaker Special, he did nothing wrong, but it felt like a petty overreach.
Same thing here if you ask me regarding Loeffler getting booted over a bit of foul language.

I also went berserk. I was sitting at the tables off the endzone watching UB score the winning points just feet in front of me. One of those bad taste memories permanently scarred into my brain. When we were leaving the seating area, we were nearly freight trained by the UB coaches coming from the box, who were sprinting like banshees with their hair on fire to get to their locker room for the celebration. I couldn't blame them.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 7:54 pmThat game was a nightmare. James Starks went berserk.

That was my last home game as a BG student. Terrible way to end my years as an undergrad at the Doyt. But the beatdown we delivered to Amstutz at the glass bowl more or less made up for it.Beaker wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 9:18 amI also went berserk. Funny story. During the offseason I wrote up a draft post but never posted it on what if you could change one event in BG football history, logically trace through how that one change ripples through the program. I wrote a what if BG beat Buffalo in 2008. It was an interesting exercise that ended with a different coach succeeding Gregg Brandon in a different year, and a forgotten QB taking over the team in an alternate reality where neither Dave Clawson nor Matt Schilz are Falcons. Might post it next offseason.

That sounds like the start of a BG themed sci-fi book with a Dr. Who twist.
Re: Buffalo Bulls
Absolutely. Those officials should never work another game again and consider themselves lucky the FBI doesn't open a gambling investigation. They attempted to alter the outcome of a Division I game.

He's competitive. He wants to win. He cares. Does it go too far sometimes? Maybe, but this isn't nursery school. The line between competitive fire and what some would consider inappropriate is a thin one. I like players who are competitive and know enough to not run their mouths to the point that they get flagged

I like players that are tough as hell, compete and are humble. He is only concerned with himself. I guess when we were getting punished by Tennessee and he was dancing on the field during timeouts, he was competing for dancing with the stars. when some of the team leaders spoke with another loudmouth to keep it together, he told them to F-off, he played at bigger places then them and knows what he doin. You can have them.Antimob wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 5:18 pmHe's competitive. He wants to win. He cares. Does it go too far sometimes? Maybe, but this isn't nursery school. Re: Buffalo Bulls
I didn't see the game. Was the officiating really this bad and really this one-sided?
(This seems like a strong take. On the other hand, it is rare that a coach is as tough on the game officials as Eric Lewis was yesterday on Twitter.)

The MAC officials were reportedly in the box for our game (no other MAC games playing) , so they got to see it in person. If nothing happens, that will tell the story.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 5:58 pmI didn't see the game. Was the officiating really this bad and really this one-sided?

Re: Buffalo Bulls
Yes and yes. It was a farce. Ejecting the head coach over words (this isn't basketball), calls that negated scoring plays and kept drives alive and allowing UB to do whatever they wanted in the second half.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 5:58 pm

It definitely crossed the line.
Re: Buffalo Bulls
Yes, the officiating was so bad. All the officials were clearly out to get Bowling Green. Scot Loeffler is now 7-20 as the head coach (not 6-20) and is the first head coach in NCAA history who beat both the opposing team and the officials in the same game.
