We're thin there now and we're going to have to bring in a bunch of guys to fill the spots. August to September isn't a great deal of time to build the aforementioned chemistry and continuity you need.

How do you get undone by the same problem year after year?
Because he isn’t a good coach.

I agree. This all seems so simple to me. Just overload that position with guys and let the cream rise. I love signing the guys who don't get starting jobs at Power 5s but at the very least you could take the All-whatever conference heidelberg is in OL team and sign them all and then go from there.

Only problem with that, have you looked at the All Ohio Conference OL? Firstly these guys are all (4 were seniors/grad students) so doubtful there is too much more physical development available. But this group would get destroyed in the MAC:

Carson Barrett, Mount Union 6'2 270#
Wally Kalinowski, Heidelberg 6'2 285#
Jimmy Sweat, Heidelberg 6'6 280#
Jack Faron, John Carroll 6'4 260#
Luke Gibbons, John Carroll 6'2 270#

That said, you were probably being facetious. There is zero reason to go down to the D3 level to find players. The FCS ranks are filled with talented rosters, I'd argue there are a good deal of teams/conferences playing better football than the MAC. Certainly some of those kids would be willing to jump to an FBS program.

I didn't look but assumed as much. Was mostly just throwing out that there are tons of good players and we seem to be overly picky when the solution is probably sign a ton of guys even with issues.

I am all in on Wally Kalinowski though. Undersized but not drastically and a fantastic name.

D3 lineman? If anyone truly thinks that is a viable answer, please move to the ladies table tennis board now. Absolutely ridiculous thought.

I do. I think we should get all the d3 lineman. I think they are tremendous players that would really help this team. If you have never seen Jimmy Sweat play I think you need to sit down on this one.

Davian Mayo, who was listed as a redshirt sophomore on Memphis website, has committed to BG out of the portal. He’s a linebacker that played in 13 games for the Tigers last season, and he was 3-star out of the state of Arkansas in high school.

Decent size, decent student, decent results when he was on the field. Nice addition. I imagine he'll be a day 1 starter.
BG '10

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

Linebacker is a definite strong point on the roster this year, with Brock Horne and Darren Anders both back, as well as guys like Demetrius Hardamon, Cashius Howell, Diego Neri, and now Mayo. That feels like the 2nd deepest room on the team, besides RB.

Commit from sophomore transfer Finn Hogan of CMU. 6’5” WR who had 155 yards receiving as a freshman. Nice addition for size.

I’ll wager a coke that TE is in his future.
