Vandelay posted this over on the MAC board about the potential new bowl bids for the MAC. It seems he's got a very good source, but can't provide anymore details than this. I think this should provoke some interesting conversation about possible sites! Go BG!
(1) we will be a part of a new bowl(s) - not currently existing
(2) very decent chance (better than we ever have had) at 4, most likely three
(3) one bowl possibility is in our footprint, the other possibility is not
more details will follow when I am given the "OK" - be patient; bowl certification is at the end of April; enjoy March Madness
(With a new stadium coming in '08, it doesn't seem like that awkward of a proposition. I believe the original idea for a bowl game in Indy was axed before the new stadium here finally won approval.)

It could be the game "in the footprint" is Indy, and the less likely is Toronto (outside the footprint.)
I hope this is the case. Traveling to Indy would be a lot easier than Toronto, although both are great venues for a game. I really hope the 4th, where ever it may be, comes through
An existing bowl might be swapping out their conferences too. I could see CUSA losing a bid. But however they bids come, so much the better.
Stealing a bid from CUSA would be pretty sweet, especially in regards to the crap we had to sit through when Marshall was leaving. Poetic justice. They leave us to go to a conference with more bowl ties and we steal one. Ohh if it were a perfect world!

Buffalo = 98 miles
Ypsilanti = 273 miles
Toledo = 289 miles
Bowling Green = 312 miles
Also, Those Who Know have stated pretty definitively that the Indy Bowl is off teh board. Yes, it may be revived, but getting that done it time for April certification isn't going to happen.

I agree. Most likely scenario is that Toronto is the bowl within our footprint and more likely than the other. The other possibility is probably something like a bowl game in Florida or New York.
Sounds like the Big East fans feel a little underwhelmed at playing a bowl in Toronto with the lowly MAC. I think they should have a little more respect considering what happened to Pitt at Ohio this year!

I think Toronto is a far more fun city to visit than Detroit. It is like NYC on heavy anxiety meds. Bloor street is a day-trip all of its own. It has solid public transit, ample in-city sites, cheap food, friendly folks, etc.
If you are going to travel to a snow-bound city, Toronto beats Detroit as a place to go. I think the BE fans will be pleasently surprised.
