We lose a three way tie based on the tie breaker because we went to a bowl last year. NIU wins that one because they are the longest bowl no-show.
I think that is only used to decide who wins if we are unable to play the MACC game. I dont think we get screwed on that one in a 3way tie for the division. but I do go to toledo, so I'm probably wrong.

We need an official sticky thread that clears this up, because in one of the other threads we somebody actually found the tie-breaking rule.

yeah thats what I was referign too, its really ify though. The rule book doesnt really explain it well, so even if you have it, its not really clear who would win. But I agree, we need this stated somewhere. Maybe even have a documents page Grant. With reference materials in it such as that.

I'm sure if you found the official rule books in PDF format, he'd make a documents section up for ya!

Here is the tie breaker procedure

1. Head-to-Head
2. Record vs. Common Opponents
3. Record in conference crossover games
4. Point Margin

If this is accurate, maybe we better keep running up the score...

Where did yhis come from? I haven't seen this one, yet. The tiebreaker I've been posting is from '03-04 season. Maybe the MAC changed tiebreakers?

I apologize I made an error. 3. should be who won the better conference crossover game. Ex. beating a 5-3 Marshall would be better than beating 2-6 UCF.

My source is a former representative of the MAC offices.

(People have been confusing the Big 10 tie breaker with the MAC tie breaker)

Toledo has outscored conference opponents by 79 points.
Northern Illinois has done it by 49 points.
Bowling Green has done it by 7 points.

So, if our scenario of a 3-way tie at 7-1 occurs (UT beats NIU and BG beats UT), then we would win because we had the best crossover opponent in Marshall?

Sorry for being really nit-picky, but UT is only up 74 points. Those 5 points could very well be the difference by the end of the season.

Good question.

Ohio is no pushover, either.

Our opponents are definitely stronger than NIU's opponents (Akron and Central Florida). Toledo has Miami and Ohio.

I think our slate will end up toughest.

How about that one MAC rule where a team cannot represent the conference if said team has more than_X_ players arrested that year.

OK...maybe it's a last minute judgement call?
