Others closer to the program may correct me on this, but I think one of Paul Krebs' strengths has been his ability to judge and manage talent.JoeFalcon wrote:1. As has been noted, their youth might work to their disadvantage in terms of asserting their authority and expectations with staff and most importantly coaches. Will they have the fortitude to speak frankly with the strong personalities that currently occupy the head coaching positions? Will they have the guts to make the tough decision to dismiss an underperforming coach, as Krebs did time after time? We can't be certain.
Krebs has a pretty good track record of hiring good coaches and then finding ways to keep them happy. Two examples that come to mind are Curt Miller and Andy Richards.
I hope this important quality isn't lost in the obvious, reasonable emphasis on fundraising.
I was raised in a car family -- and in the Detroit tradition, we would carp about how the bean counters were ruining the Big Three. What the Big Three need, it is often said in Detroit, are car men at the top -- people who can tear their heads way from spreadsheets and financial reports, look at their cars, and intuit whether people really want to buy them.
I hope there is a car man lurking in one of these resumes, if y'all catch my drift.

To get AD's with any more experience BG was going to need to pry their wallets open a little farther then their use to... unfortunately both of these gentlemen will not be at BG forever, but at the same time if they can make a dramatic impact on the financial position of the Athletic Department, then they will have done their jobs.
I don't think age is a huge consideration when it comes to respecting "management" after a few months. You either will respect the man because he knows what he is doing, or hate the man because he is an idiot... I have worked for four heads of departments over five years, and currently our head is the youngest I have worked with, at yet by far the most talented and best boss that I have had. Lets not forget here BG has had some young coaches join the staffs of the Basketball, Football, and Hockey teams... you hire the best person, not the best person based on age.

Good for him.
And it was even worse for those of us that were on air personalities. The sales folks made the coin. We fought for scraps. Needless to say, I don't see a return to the radio industry in my future...especially the way it is these days.

These candidates seem like excellent possibilities for BG. I am sure both have been highly scrutinized/reviewed carefully by perhaps the nation's leading college athletics search firm/person.
Obviously, these guys are development and marketing people first and foremost. But I would imagine they have shown some excellent capabilities elsewhere in their management of people and budgets. Their relatively young age does generally mean high energy, but may not necessarily signal any problem dealing with older or established coaches. The new AD's slate is clean and we build the best program we can. With some key people at BG already in a couple of senior posts, perhaps the chosen candidate will be able to retain people whose strengths compliment his less developed areas.
In any event, I believe it is an exciting time for BG and I look forward to hearing from our new AD- apparently in just a few days/weeks.
Go Falcons!
