I guess that is our theme come to thinkg of it..BGSU is a popcult library of THE DESING and TRENDs of the Decades...all they need to do is truck back in from portage the log cabin original Union and bingo...its complete.
BGSU- our campus is desinged to ugly to bewilder our students.
I think they are building this on the wrong campus.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

BG does have a "theme" to its buildings. Except for the very old, most of our buildings are meant to represent something.
It is a wonderful artistic notion, and one of the reasons I love BG.
Unfortunately, the trend is now seemingly gone, but the "falcon" rec center, the "grand piano" Moore Musical Arts Building, Jerome Library and Student Services Bldg. all represent something simple and important to the meaning of the building.
Miami's campus is horrible. It feels like walking down the Barbi aisle in a toy store. Yes, it's neat and tidy, but sheesh the only buildings which look different are those which are meant to copy a bigger and better building. The Kennedy Center inspired Miami, a grand piano inspired BG.
Screw that - I love BG's campus.

NC state's campus is probably the least attractive campus I've been on )at least in the ACC)...I'm glad the RBC center and Carter Finley are away from their campus...and what is up with those north carolina schools? unc, Lord knows I hate them, has a beautfiul campus, but man so much ugly carolina blue everywhere...makes you wanna puke

Walk the Elon campus in the middle of summer and you can't believe at how green the grass is. I swear they have green paint rollers in lieu of blades on the lawn mowers. Lots of Rockefeller money at Elon.
Methodist College looks like it was built in the 1950's because they continue to use those damn honeycombs on the buildings. I used to hate looking at our buildings.

I've only been to the ACC ones in NC, and when I went to Wake it was at night so I didn't really get to see their campus...from the four I've been to, I like Duke's the most...the Chapel is really nice over there...Would like to get down to Elon...I've heard ECU has some nice scenery, if you know what I'm talking about...

MACMAN
Oh I have plenty of respect for the lang just not the time or patience to cut and paste for a spell check and i dont prof read.Bleeding Orange wrote:That is the most incomprehensible thing I've ever read. But, grammar and respect for the English language aside, there are many of us out there that appreciate the architectural diversity that the BGSU campus provides. In fact, very few major universities actually have the kind of architectural cohesiveness that you are talking about anways (read: Miami (OH), Allegheny College, etc.), so I'm not sure exactly what your point is.MACMAN wrote:I know this may come as a shock...but BGSU is the most Aritecuraly challanged UNIV in the nation.

There are plenty of schools that meet the standards i like. dartmouth, Bodine, Miami as you said..I am a person who does apreicate the "diversity" as you put it, i just do not like it or agree with it, just as I dont it like when people applaude after aria at the Toledo opra..its goes against every tradition...some like that not me...
So me stating that I dont like something,a nd you stating you do but dont get my point makes me wonder what your point is...that you would prefer me to run spell check and prof each posts, or that its not ok for me to dislike/hate the architural debunkery that is BGSU.

So, we should overlook the overwhelming number of mispelled and improperly used words and abysmal sentence structure and focus on the argument you advance?
There's a problem with that line of thought. Frankly, it's too much work trying to hack through the "noise" to arrive at the point you're trying to make. If you don't have enough respect for your ideas or the people to which you're expressing them to state your ideas in something at least somewhat akin to english, why should we bother? I'm not suggesting that you have to be perfect, goodness knows I make my share of spelling and grammatical errors, but you can't let the number of errors drown out your message.

MACMAN, just so we're clear, you didn't say "In my opinion BGSU has an ugly campus." You made a declarative, definitive statement. Hence the tenor of my post.

I believe sometime in the past he mentioned something about having dyslexia. Given that, I tend to try to look past the errors.Flipper wrote:So, we should overlook the overwhelming number of mispelled and improperly used words and abysmal sentence structure and focus on the argument you advance?

I didn't know that, and I appologize. Really, I just work in the grammar barb whenever I can because my I am sworn to uphold the integrity of the English language. Unfortunately, I am powerless as we speak because I am not wearing any underwear.BGFan wrote:I believe sometime in the past he mentioned something about having dyslexia.
