Who hosted that show on STO? Did they bother to look at our record and see that it is just as good if not better than every team OSU plays prior to their showdown vs Michigan? Did they bother to look at Kent's record, not to mention the scores they've rang up against us and Akron the last two weeks? Everybody keeps talking about Kent State as if they are the same godawful horrible team from the last decade or so. Last time I checked they were 3-2 and 3-0 in the MAC, about to be 4-2 after they whoop Temple this Saturday. If I was a Kent fan, I'd be totally insulted by the disrespect coming from the Bobcats and Buckeyes of the world.falconfan1999 wrote:Well, if we need to add any fuel to the fire, I am watching Buckeye Blitz on Sportstime Ohio. I am really fired up for this game! I hope BG marches down the field and scores right away. It will take a miracle for us to pull this one out, but I hope we can remind the Suckeyes that this isn't a bye week!
All hail to Kent State, the most high sultan of the powerhouse MAC.
Question #1: Who hosted that show on STO? Did they bother to look at our record and see that it is just as good if not better than every team OSU plays prior to their showdown vs Michigan?
Answer: Is Wake Forest (5-0) better than LSU or Texas (both 4-1)? Let's be rational grown ups here. Bowling Green has played garbage. Buffalo and FIU don't deserve to be recognized as wins. You have essentially one win against an opponent that deserves I-A recognition. Just so you can gain some perspective about where you ACTUALLY rank on terms of talent with other teams we play this year:
1. Michigan
2. Texas
3. Penn State
4. Iowa
5. Michigan State
6. Minnesota
7. Northern Illinois
8. Cincinnati
9. Illinois
10. Northwestern
11. Bye Week
12. Bowling Green
13. Indiana
Question #2: Did they bother to look at Kent's record, not to mention the scores they've rang up against us and Akron the last two weeks?
Answer: Okay, let's look into Kent's record. IMPRESSIVE! They beat winless Miami (of Ohio) by two. Blowout win over Bowling Green (yawn). They beat Akron by 22, but we beat Penn State (who handily beat Akron) by 22. Being kicked around (44-0) by Minnesota doesn't impress me much, either. Especially since Minny is 2-3 and, therefore, worse than BG.
In summary, go ahead and feel like we've underestimated the "mighty" MAC. By all means, continue to clamour for the gridiron respect that you feel you so greatly deserve. PLEASE attempt to validate your conference by naming off MAC stars who go on to the NFL. All the other MAC fans do it! I guess I'm callused to having future NFLers on the roster. I mean, the Buckeyes have had their backups drafted. For the Big(11)Ten, high level talent is the rule...not the exception.
Perspective is key. Bowling Green is a good academic institution. I'm purely talking football. Here is the best way I can offer true perspective (in relation to OSU) on your programs place in the mind of an objectional college football fan:
Bowling Green is a "stepping stone" program for Utah
Utah is a "stepping stone" program for Florida
Florida and Ohio State are programs on the same level
But, hey...Tell yourself whatever will get you to sleep better tonight.

Hold it. You just put another team on the same level as Ohio State? I can't believe what I am reading. An Ohio State fan just said another team is their equal. I need to go to the bathroom now.OilerBuck wrote:All hail to Kent State, the most high sultan of the powerhouse MAC.

I like that steak comes from cows. That is why a cow will not think twice about eating you.
In 2003 this stuff bugged me. BG was a great team. Miami(OH) was a great team. Toledo & NIU were very, very good teams. As a whole the MAC was on the rise, and was getting upsets on a weekly basis. The conference looked to be on the rise and was starting to get some respect.
In the subsequent years all those big 4 teams have regressed. None of the little boys have done a thing to replace them in the limelight. As a whole the MAC has gone to crap.
Now don't get me wrong, I still love the MAC, but on the landscape of college football this conference is the dregs of 1A. We are no better than the 2nd worst conference in 1A, and that's pretty debateable.
So while, I still don't like the attitude from OSU fans that we don't belong on the same field as them, and that this is just a bye week for them, I really don't have much of a rebuttal. If this game is within 4 TDs in the 3rd quarter it is because OSU is sleepwalking through the game. I wish there were a reasonable argument to be made about why we could compete, or even win, but they're just not there. In 2003 we had the best player on the field, and a wide open offense that could keep things interesting. We also had playmaking defensive players with a penchant for forcing turnovers. We don't have a superstar any longer, we don't run the same offense, and any defensive playmakers we may have are too young to really be counted on in big games.
I'm sorry, but despite how I feel about the arguments most OSU fans are making, there is little to refute them.
