I'm not saying that at all. I'm simply saying that the band's contribution to such mud is negligible considering there was a football game going on. Band or no band - that field was doomed to mush. To say we should have taken away the last march from those seniors, which as important to them as the last game is to the senior players, is insulting.Warthog wrote:Saxy, I respect your opinion but will gracefully disagree. 100 or so people walking around in a rain soaked grassy area will turn it to mud despite there lack of size or footwear. I am not saying any of this to bash the band in any way shape or form.

Okay. Let's think about this a bit. The band marches for ten minutes before the game, and about eight minutes during halftime (basically walking). The game itself(including the band) lasted almost four hours. Football players run full speed. With cleats. The band has shoes with no traction. I know the band does contribute a bit to the muddy field conditions, but come on. They stood in one spot for 1/3 of the show while the dance team humped the drumline.
That's all.
That's all.

NO!!!!!
Football is game that is
1. Meant to be played outside
2. Meant to be played on a natural surface GRASS
articial surfaces detract from the game
What we had the great privilege of watching last night, was great football being played by tough as nails players.
No more grass in football and you might as well get rid of the linemen and go to a 3 Mississippi rush because the line is violent.
Great game lastnight...great game.

OK, I'll go along with that. I was looking at it more like it didn't help having the band (or anyone) on the field, but it probably didn't hurt that much either. The field was going to be a mess one way or another.SaxyIrishTenor wrote:I'm not saying that at all. And you are right that the seniors band members deserved their last "day in the sun" so to speak.

So just because OSU is doing it, we should too?Falcon52 wrote:They have obviously done thier homework. What better validation do we need.
I suppose that if Flipper was going to jump off a bridge, you would too?

No! I would never do something just becuase tOSU was. However, the validation may come from the fact that even with a leading edge agricultural program, they still feel the need to give into the fake stuff.
If I was recruiting for another school that had the fake stuff, I would pull out the video of the BG v. Miami game this year and ask kids if they really wanted to play on a field like that? If you were a kicker, you would be nuts to want to come to BG.
