The fact that this issue of the BG/Tol game being the day after Thanksgiving has been asked of the AD and debated on this board for 2 pages, shows one thing. No matter how much we carp about wanting respect from ESPN or anyone else about being a "Big Time" program, we aren't. Do you think USC or AZ State is complaining about their game being ON Thanksgiving? What about Texas and Texas A&M? They are on the same day we are...So is Nebraska/Colorado, and Mississippi/Mississippi State.
My point is, for OTHERS to respect you, your own fan-base and students have to respect you. Why in the hell should ESPN put us on a national broadcast (whether it be the Deuce, the Ocho, ESPNU, or Deportes) when we can't even get 15k to show up in the stadium to watch the team! we need to worry about our own "fan base" before we start complaining about others...I doubt USC/ASU, Tex/Tex A&M, or NEB/COL are going to have any problem drawing 15k on Thanksgiving Day or the day after...

The standard for respect shouldn't be event attendence.
If so, ESPN wouldn't show people playing cards, bowling, shooting pool and falling 50 feat off a skateboard platform. The billiard audiences I've seen consist of 30 people and a referee-type dressed in a rented tux.
Division IA college football is a commodity whether the students and townies realize it for themselves or not.
Quite frankly, as long as we beat Toledo, they can show Ron Popeil spraying fake hair on people's bald spots as far as I'm concerned.

AMEN to that. 3 years in a row is 3 years too many...time for BG to start winning this game. UT's had our number the last decade and I, for one, am sick and tired of losing to them.JoeFalcon wrote: Quite frankly, as long as we beat Toledo, they can show Ron Popeil spraying fake hair on people's bald spots as far as I'm concerned.

So are you saying you'd like to see what has become a "traditional" rivalry game changed? Thought you were in favor of keeping our traditions.... (and YES, I DO know that we played UT earlier in the season years ago....(It doesn't say , "Class of 61" for nothing!)[/quote]
Yes...esp since we seem to keep coming up with all kinds of changes and new ones anyway why not make the change...for the home stand game.

This is a good post. Texas and Texas A&M have been playing noon Friday after Thanksgiving forever, it seems.CapitalFalcon wrote:The fact that this issue of the BG/Tol game being the day after Thanksgiving has been asked of the AD and debated on this board for 2 pages, shows one thing. The solution is obvious: Just don't go shopping.
