Damn, very sad news. This is what I was afraid of hearing. I don't think some of us realize the loss this is for our team because he was a newcomer to BG and only played in a pair of games. I can only hope we get some guys to step it up at that position because right now, I think the RB spot is probably one of our biggest concerns on offense. I like what we have in our QBs, our WRs have really stepped it up this year, I think our OL is starting come along, but our RBs haven’t really been utilized and we just lost arguably our best RB for the season. Not good news at all.BGFootball wrote:Just so you all know, Ransom is indeed done for the year, they will be trying to get him his 6th year of eligibility, lets hope it works out.

Ransom would have been great to have, but if there was one position where this team could get through a season long injury, I would say it was RB. We have Geter and Bullock to fill in, Macon as well and Anthony Turner could even be used there in an extreme emergency. We would have been better with Ransom, will be fine without him.jpfalcon09 wrote:It'll give Bullock more playing time and Geter probably more chances to carry the ball. Indeed, Ransom's injury is going to be very hard to fill, but I think that the players know how important he is to the team and will surely step up in his absence.
Agreed. We were stacked at RB coming into this year. Geter from all indications will make a great starter, and Bullock will be an excellent back-up as a true power back. If need be, I'm sure we could even move Macon back to RB for some different looks.

I suggested the "Macon switch" back, when the issue of Ransom's injury first came up...Dan knows the plays, the routes etc....and I'm thinking would be more valuable as a RB now than learning the WR position in his Sr.(5) year.BGDrew wrote:Agreed. I'm looking for more emphasis on the running game now that we're through with the BT teams...not sure that I want to see Sheehan throwing 50+ passes per game the entire season...we need a bit more balance in our offense from this point on, which would also help Sheehan's passing IMO.

That would make this offense nearly unstoppableClass of 61 wrote:I suggested the "Macon switch" back, when the issue of Ransom's injury first came up...Dan knows the plays, the routes etc....and I'm thinking would be more valuable as a RB now than learning the WR position in his Sr.(5) year.BGDrew wrote:Agreed. With Macon I am not sure it is necessary that he actually "switch" back. Like you said he knows the running plays etc. etc. There is no detriment to him practicing and learning WR. If another back has gone down or/and if we have implimented a hunk of new plays that he might not know than it absolutely makes sense.Class of 61 wrote:I suggested the "Macon switch" back, when the issue of Ransom's injury first came up...Dan knows the plays, the routes etc....and I'm thinking would be more valuable as a RB now than learning the WR position in his Sr.(5) year.BGDrew wrote:Agreed. I understand the reason, but in all honesty I really hope that Bullock and Geter get all of the reps in games. Macon didn't do much to impress me last year, and I feel that the running game will be better suited without him getting a majority of carries.BGFootball wrote:You guys are right....Macon is back to takin reps at RB.

I didn't suggest that Dan get the "majority of carries", only that, by moving him back to his "natural" position of RB, we'd have an experienced person to fall back on...and, if you recall the OSU game last year, he busted one of our longest runs of the season against the team from Central Ohio. He hasn't perhaps lived up to expectations, but I'd expect better from him as a 5th yr. Sr. than he did when he was nicked up over past couple of years.

From the ST:
Knee injury sides Falcons' Ransom for the rest of the season
Eric Ransom, the junior college tailback who was recruited by Bowling Green to add speed to the program, is out for the rest of the season.
He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the second quarter of BG’s loss at Michigan State Sept. 8.
He will have surgery in the near future, BG head coach Gregg Brandon said.
When asked when Ransom would return, Brandon said: “Spring football. We’ll get him back for next fall.”
Ransom made an immediate impact for the Falcons with a 53-yard catch and run for a touchdown in BG’s season-opening 32-31 win at Minnesota.
In his limited action, Ransom had gained 46 yards on nine carries (5.1 yards per carry) and had nine receptions for 117 yards (13.0 yards per catch).
With the loss of Ransom, Dan Macon moves back to running back from wide receiver. Macon will compete with Willie Geter and Chris Bullock for playing time.
“It was a no-brainer to move Dan back there because he’s experienced and he can play there,” Brandon said.
“They are all repping (getting repetitions in practice) about equally,” Brandon added.
