I'd love confirmation on the number of schollies available. In theory, with fewer schollies to use, we might be able to recruit our targets harder.
I'm the kind of person that likes to see everything in one place and written out. Just to show what offers/commits are reportedly out there...

*Commits*
QB/ATH - Keith Morgan - 6'1 195 - Bellefontaine
OL - Tim German - 6'5 310 - Licking Valley
OL - Marc Stevens - 6'6 290 - Lexington

OL - Brandon Kluener - 6'4 280 - Cincinnati Colerain
OL - Chip Robinson - 6'5.5 370 - Middletown

*Offers* - Per Scout.com
ATH - Salvador Battles - 5'11 205 - Youngstown East
QB - Zach Stoudt - 6'5 210 - Dublin Coffman
RB - Jamie Simpson - 6'0 225 - MICHIGAN
WR - Bakari Bussey - 6'2 180 - Lakota West
WR - Briggs Orsbon - 6'0 180 - Convoy Crestview
WR - Kason Dickerson - 6'1 190 - MICHIGAN
WR - Philip Pierre-Louis - 5'9 165 - FLORIDA
OT - Blaine Schafer - 6'6 275 - INDIANA
OG - Kevin Galeher - 6'4 315 - ILLINOIS
OG - Eric Warning - 6'3 250 - PENNSYLVANIA
C - Joe Semple - 6'3 285 - ILLINOIS
DT - Ike Washington - 6'1 270 - Trotwood-Madison
DE - Ricky Sprat - 6'3 237 - MICHIGAN
DE - Whitney Mercilus - 6'3 225 - Akron Garfield
DE - John Youboty - 6'4 250 - TEXAS
LB - Travis Freeman - 5'11 182 - Cleveland Glenville
CB - Anthony Hollis - 5'10 165 - MICHIGAN
CB - Manley Waller - 5'9 160 - GEORGIA
CB - D.J. Brown - ** *** - Lakota West
CB - Norman Young - 6'1 185 - Trotwood-Madison
CB - Greg Castillo - 5'11 160 - PENNSYLVANIA
*Offers* Per Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba.com
P/K - Phillips - ** *** - Clyde

I'm not sure that BG will stick to the 5 OL, 5 DB, and 1 Kicker blueprint, but I do think they'll take their time and get the best they can get. Teams always offer more than they have to have back-ups when people go elsewhere, which always happens. Obviously this offer list may not be completely accurate, as it is all word of mouth. BGSU and it's coaches can say nothing about anyone until LOI's are signed. Looks like there are some players that could fit in well at BG. Makes me excited to see some of these players as a possibility to play at BG.

*Thanks BS!

What do you all think about getting another JC athlete or two this coming year? Do you think BG should? Do you think they will?

I think BG should go after another JC athlete or two. It never hurts to grab someone who may be able to play sooner than later. However, there is no reason to make a huge habit of it as it could always hurt the future of your program.

Please correct your state info for OL prospect Blaine Schafer. He lives in Indiana.

JUCOs have their place.

Our kicking tandem is a great example. Hopefully Ransom pans out, too.

It's dangerous to try to build your program with JUCOs, but they can be productive players. Ruben Ruiz is another good recent example - not a great player, but came in an filled a need.

The kickers made sense because we had an immediate an unexpected hole on the roster. Actually, two holes. We thought we were set for four years.

Same with Ransom. Many folks forget that two years ago we thought we'd be set at RB for some time with Dan Macon and a young man by the name of Bobby Thomas. Fast forward and we've found that Macon is not cut out to be a featured back and, apparently, Thomas didn't make the grade. So we added Ransom to fill out the stable.

So if the coaching staff sees a hole in the roster, a JUCO could be the right answer. But adding one just to add one? Probably not.

This is Marc Stevens just after he committed to play for BGSU. It was a great day for him and his family. He is really proud and excited to be a Falcon. You will see him at more games in the near future. If you do see him make sure you talk to him.

If you click on that middle photo, it's very, very easy to see why. :)

Welcome to Bowling Green, Marc. Congratulations.

JUCO kickers are often preferred because they're more of a proven commodity. IIRC, Mark Ellis said George O'Leary at UCF doesn't give freshman kickers schollies...they have to walk on for a year and prove their worth..

On the issue of the OL recruits...Rivals has ablurb on western michigan's recruits...it confirms the Stevens verbal and it also discusses Blaine Schafer...apparently Schaefer is looking at Ball State, BG and WMU. apparently Schafer has been told we have one schollie slotted for OL left.

Thanks for the welcome!

I have read your forum for quite some time and I had to finally join and correct the misinformation about Blaine.

We visited BG for the Temple game and last summer for the "Big Man's Camp". Blaine has major interest in BG. Coach Ward has done a great job in recruiting him. Ward offered Blaine before school was out last spring.

Blaine is down to three schools...BG...BSU and WMU. It is a VERY difficult decision. Blaine did have a conversation with Mark Stevens last night. They are planning on getting together at the Ohio game on 10/27.

We know BG has a great tradition in all areas. One of BG's former (BGSU '07) baseball players is from the same school as Blaine...Josh Dietz.

Thanks for the post, and good luck in making a decision.

And I guess I should leave it at that, since:

(a) all of us, as fans, alumni, benefactors and season ticket holders, are representatives of Bowling Green's athletic interests and seen as "boosters" by the NCAA.
(b) it strikes me as possible that you just might be Blane's parent or legal guardian. (Although we obviously can't know that for sure based on that post).

By the way, if (b) isn't true, let us know. I'm sure a lot of us would be able to talk your ear off about BGSU.

Otherwise -- BGSU has never had a major NCAA infraction, and I want to be very careful to keep it that way.

Thanks for the update...I'm sure it is a difficult choice. Ball State and Western Michigan are wonderful schools and Brady Hoke and Bill Cubit are very good coaches. Good luck with weighing all the options...I hope you're all enjoying the process.

I think Blaine will enjoy the atmosphere at the OU game...they're a long time rival and we've enjoyed a lot of success against them of late. Should be a hck of a game with a great crowd to boot.

Good story on OL commits

Post by Harry Hood »

Here is a good story on the two Middletown OL commits.
These are some big boys. They both hold offers from Illinois and other MAC schools.
