I believe that USC is exempted from the 'directional' arrogance due to the fact that it is a private school.
That's a lame excuse, but about par for the course with these nimrods (I haven't used the term nimrod in a while and am enjoying it too much.)
Is calling someone a nimrod really an insult?
I believe nimrod turned into an insult when Bugs Bunny used to use it in disparaging Elmer Fudd. Chuck Jones and company knew it sounded like an insult, when it was actually just a description of Elmer hunting "wabbits."
Reminds me of manure...It's newer, which is good, and a ma in front of it. Ma-Newer. When you consider the other choices, manure is actually pretty refreshing.

Yet another reason why I hate Ohio State. Ever notice that everytime a big-time school feels threatened it always resorts to its so called supremacy.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, when you have a small group (BCS Conferences) controlling everything it is nothing short of a monopoly.

All we can hope for is that the OSU's of the football world will fall into a football abyss and disappear for many years. Then see how good that shoe looks half filled.

Some schools change the world by degrees.

Some think they change it by turning out football players.

By the way, BG grad Ben Marrison is editor of the Dispatch. Ben is an active and proud BG alum.

Wow. What a douche. This my friends is why the BCS must go. Its arrogance like this that makes me want to root for all "mid-majors" everywhere. Seeing games like that Boise St.-Ok Fiesta Bowl back in Jan makes me grin all the more.

Me thinks this article needs to be sent to Coach GB pronto so he can disseminate it to the players. This should be sent to every small school's coach who's playing a BCS opponent this week.

I guess I have been beaten down enough that it really doesn't effect me anymore. After all, the only thing we can do about it is to keep knocking off the big boys. Hopefully we can do that on Saturday!
I agree with Tom. Yeah the writer is a dick and his "column" is pure garbage. It's no different than Robert Smith saying the same BS on ESPN. Maybe this chode chose to ignore the fact BG could EASILY be 2-2 vs the mighty poison balls but that wouldn't surprise me.

Mongrels, eh? LOL! All this does is appease the blind sheep that follow the giant cow college in Columbus. If mid majors aren't a threat, why even write something like this? Obviously there is a threat.

I heard Jim Lachey say the same thing the other night..."I love how the OSUs, Michigans, Penn States and such are always on top... where they should be".

They all can kizz my orange and brown azz. Like Tom said, keep knocking off BCS teams and someday, maybe not someday soon, but someday the mid majors will catch the BCS monopoly gang. The 85 schollie limit was the BEST thing ever for college football.

Mongrels, eh? I think this mongrel will take a BiG ole pizz on the leg of the "master". LOL!!!

Rob,

As a 1990 grad of BGSU and one of the biggest fans of the Bowling Green State University football program, I had to laugh when I read your dribble. No wonder 85% of the OSU fan base thinks the way they do. They are blind sheep that can’t see anything wrong with OSU’s program. And most of them have never stepped foot on OSU’s campus. What a joke…

Maybe you forgot that BG could EASILY be 2-2 vs. the mighty Buck$. With a budget of $15 Million, we do quite well vs. BCS conference teams with budgets five times the size of ours. OSU has, what, a $100 Million budget? Since 2001, do you realize BGSU is 4-5 vs. the BiG “Can’t count anything but the dollars” Ten? And how many of those 9 games have been BG home games? Oh, none…that’s right.

One thing I’ll give OSU credit for…they sure have the NCAA sniffing around their doors quite a bit. BGSU, on the other hand, has NEVER been found guilty of an NCAA infraction. And how about comparing BG’s graduation rate for the football program to that of OSU’s? I thought so. OSU is nothing but a semi pro team stockpiling the No Fun League.

Here’s a final thought…if the “mid majors” are nobody and not a threat, why would you write a piece like this?

Have a nice day and make sure the write up for the Bowling Green upset of #7 Boston College is on the front page!

GO FALCONS!!!

BTW, make sure you say Hi to Ben Marrison from all the BG fans out there! You know, the editor of your paper? ;)

I don't understand all the heat over this. That article was just a dull opinion by some schmo writing for some local paper. He was just catering to the local market, and he certainly didn't change any minds on either side. There was no meaningful factual substance. There was no real thought involved, and not one single original or incisive point. It was just shopworn dismissive boasting by some guy who couldn't get through Calc I so became a journalism major. That article will be forgotten very quickly. Enough already!

Ahem. BGSU has produced its fair share of sports writers who were quite capable of doing well in class across the broad spectrum offered by the university.

I think he needs a dictionary. He calls the mongrels, such as Miami (Oh.), "upstart programs" with "no tradition". . . They may not be "big time" but Miami, B.G., and many other mongrels are certainly not upstarts with no tradition.

I tried to find a bio on this joker last night on dispatch.com, but I could not find anything. My guess is that he went to a smaller school similar to those that he describes as "mongrels", but has since turned his loyalty back to the Bucks.
