no way

With the facillities we have (i.e. Anderson and the Doyt) there is no other conference that would take us.....and also every other program except football and women's basketball would get crushed in a higher conference, not a good idea at all in my opinion

We get rid of the 2 worst teams in the Mac and bring in some better mid-majors? I know no one likes to think of that, but thats the only scenerio I can think of that might work. Gosh wait for Buffalo, Cent.Mich. and Ohio to get better? Sounds like a losing propositon right now. :(

Five years ago, people could have said that about us.

There are absolutley no positives in our leaving the MAC.

Exactly LB. Let's show a little more loyalty here. Tha MAC has always been fair with BG and always aspired to maximize its and our exposure. We shouldn't think about jumping ship everytime we have a good stretch. Let's continue what we're currently doing at BG and be the BiG fish in a little pond!

I've been thinking the same thing. Alot of the talk about "we need to get out of here" seems to be from those fans that haven't been around the program that long. Everything they know is the winning tradition started in 2001. Sure, they've heard stories around the campfire about the spooky late-Blackney years, but have they really sunk in?

While I'm for improving whatever conference we're in as a whole, I think teams need to come to US, not the other way around. With BG, Miami, UT and NIU showing some stability, and I think EMU and OU could be on the rise with young programs, along with teams that have been solid somewhat recently, but have fallen off in recent years (WMU, CMU to an extent, Ball State), the potential is there for the MAC to be a strong conference. And when you look at it from the men's hoops side, just about all of those teams have been successful recently, and that doesn't even mention Kent State, who's been the flag bearer for the conference for most of the last however many years.

Strengthen from within, and add pieces as they may come available, I say.

Five years ago people were saying that about us. Four years ago people were still saying that about us. Mostly it was the Johnny Come Lately fans, and media types, who didn't know much about recent and not so recent history.

I agree with Falconboy. I'm not suggesting teams should be kicked out of the league... but maybe there is a more diplomatic way to get this done. That might be the point of this membership standards review we keep hearing about.

Five years ago, people could have talked smack about us. But they would have been wrong because they didn't know our history.

There are programs that offer a lot less to the MAC than Bowling Green. I have two in mind. I wouldn't mind seeing them go and replacing them with better prospects.

We'll see what happens.

Um, Schad... UCF and Marshall are already leaving, remember?
I believe Marshall's departure is a step backward for the MAC. Not fatal, but not a step in the right direction.

The conference is pushing some kind of membership standards, and the pretty clear intent seems to be getting the bottom feeders to pick up their own slack. What comes of that, I don't know yet.

As for Marshall leaving, to heck wtih them. If they think its a great thing for them, let them prove it. They are chasing a dream that will always leave them wanting. A program that attracts fans like Marshall's is due all the pain their attitude brings them.

Maybe I should have made the " " a little more obvious... :D

I agree that on the football field, Marshall helps brings part of the spotlight on the MAC, helping with not only SOS, but also national perception of the conference.

However off the field, I know I'm not the only one that thinks they never should have come back to begin with.

Marshall has been good for the MAC, if unpleasant. Kind of like medicine. Anyway, the great thing about competition is that people raise to the level of the top team, and our team was modeled to compete with Marshall. Without them, this league doesn't have the year we had last year. At no time in our league's history did we have as many solid teams as last year.

I hope we can continue the upward arc once they leave. But, Marshall has been good for the MAC.

UCF on the other hand? Ha, ha, ha.
