Although CUSA is mostly full of arrogant people, the fans from Memphis that I had the opportunity to talk back in 2004 were pretty good people. I personally wouldn't have minded if we had another bg/memphis rematch, but that's just me. Either way, Beat Tulsa!!MobileBama wrote:This arrogant attitude from CUSA is why I and most people in Mobile pull for MAC teams. I put hotel info up for them, but that's all I'm doing. I wouldn't be suprised if they bring less than 1,000 fans. See UTEP a few years ago. GMAC folks should have gone with ECU. They would have brought 8,000+ fans

No wonder they had the number one offense, Columbus St Francis DeSales High School could achieve that with opponents like this.

Some of the nicest, leaast aarrogant people I ever sat by at a sporting event were several Marshall fans I met at a game a few years back. Also a huge stretch to say the CUSA is full of arrogant people when you know about .0001 of them at best.Schadenfreude wrote:Marshall fans were arrogant. Of course
ALL the other Marshall fans in the world are complete jerks, but the ones I met personally were very cool. Funny how that works sometimes.

I don't know about CUSA fans being arrogant. I live in a city with two of them. I haven't met many arrogant fans of either Houston or Rice. Houston has had a storied past in football, while they had a real down era in the mid 90's until 5 years ago. But Art Briles brought the team back to respectability. Rice is Rice, and they have had one good year in forever, last year. I do know that Tulsa pasted UH about three weeks ago in Tulsa. They held a very good offense in check all game long. I have seen UH play quite a bit, I have kinda adopted them as a team to root for since my girlfriend graduated from there. There defense is very spotty, but there offense is really good. I would say that CUSA is on par if not a little better than the MAC this year. From top to bottom, they are similar. This is going to be a tough test for our defense.

Some Marshall fans were arrogant. Some were all right.

I think many of their fans got swept up in their record and probably felt they deserved a better fate than this, which is understandable. Those who are upset about this matchup will still watch it, it'll be a good game to catch to whet the appetite of college football fans before the national title game.
I love the GMAC Bowl, always have and always will. I believe it gets the best reputation out of all the MAC/C-USA bowls, and ESPN always does a great job in promoting the teams involved. The extra exposure too towards southern players will surely help our cause again in Florida.

There are just a few TU fans that feel this way.
Tulsa blew their chance at the Liberty Bowl by getting dominated by UCF's defense.
Most thought we would go to Hawaii. Better reward for the players but sucks in every other way.
The GMAC is the 2nd best Bowl C-USA is affiliated with and I am extremely excited to play BG in it. It looks like a great match up that may not be decided until the last possession.
I don't know if I will be there but fortunately I have a lot of time to work out the logistics. If I go, there will likely be 3-4 others with me.
From everything I have read, it looks like Mobile and GMAC do an outstanding job of making this a great trip.

welcome aboard WD!
I read the thread in question for the first time today, and could see that most of the folks seemed pretty decent about it, a lot more than I expected from some early reports. I'm not familiar with Tulsa's bowl history, but I assume it's much like our own, getting ANY bowl invite is a reward for our guys' hard work and should be treated as such. Sometimes they don't come around again for a decade or so...

Thanks TG,
Here is a quick "what's up" with Tulsa.
- Tulsa was the first school to appear in five straight New Years -ay
bowl games.
Sun Bowl (1-1-42), Sugar Bowl (1-1-43), Sugar Bowl (1-1-44), Orange Bowl (1-1-45) an - Oil Bowl (1-1-46).
- Tulsa has playe - in 14 bowl games
- TU has won 34 conference championships
- Tulsa has 31 All-Americans
- Tulsa has 309 all-conference selections
- the Gol -en Hurricane has pro -uce - three NFL Hall of Famers, the
most among the state schools
- TU has the most former football players (4) to serve as hea -
coaches in the NFL among Oklahoma colleges
- Tulsa has two Heisman Trophy runners-up.
Tulsa has 5, 600+ yard offensive games this year and as you can tell by the schedule above, usually doesn't have problems putting up points.
Paul Smith owns nearly all TU passing records which is amazing since TU invented the "West Coast Offense" back when teams mainly just ran the ball and had no defenses for an offense whose primary schemes were based on passing. Smith has also set several C-USA records as well.
I saw Marion mentioned above. He doesn't catch a ton of balls but when he does, they are DEEP. He has over 1,000 yards on the season.
Johnson has done very well and has over 1,000 yards too.
Clay is a RB/WR who has big play ability. He is 45 yards from reaching 1,000 yards on the season.
Adams and Williams are the primary RB's. Both are pretty good but not great. Adams has over 1,000 yards on the season despite missing a couple games.
The OL is young with only one senior but has done well this year outside the OU game and the two UCF games.
Defensively, we have 3 stud linebackers, a stud DB, and a very good DE.
The problem is we have little depth at any position and when a player goes down or has to take a breather, the drop off is immense, especially at the positions listed above. The defense has really lacked chemistry all season but did a great job vs Houston (56-7) with Houstons 7 being against all 2nd and 3rd string players.

Please do not judge all Tulsa fans based upon the comments of a few. Most Tulsa fans are still adjusting. A very few years ago we did not care where, when, or who we played in the post-season. How quickly we forget. Four bowls in five years and we get picky? I think we might all be surprised by the number of people that travel to Mobile.
While many are thinking that the game being on the 6th is a problem. I think it may actually work out better. We will not have to compete with family and other holiday commitments. Air travel will not be as difficult or hopfully as expensive and the highways may well be less congested. In otherwords, see you in Mobile and oh yes

We all have our fans that are "like that."
This has all the makings of an incredibly exciting game and Mobile, well, what can you say. They really roll out the red carpet and make this a true bowl experience. What a great time!

Tulsa is a fairly large town. Here is downtown.
