Blade article about BG's off-field problems and defections
I don't care. But the activity is a hobby. A personal vice I allow myself, and it would be a source of endless negative karma, were it not so richly deserved by them.

You make some good points.cw08 wrote: When you play or coach football, you have to understand that. A ticket for underage is news, whether you like it or not.
Another factor at play here is the small media fishbowl that BG operates within. If this were to happen in, say, Detroit, I'd wager a guess that most of this would be a found in a blurb on Page D12 and barely register a blip on the radar screen.
I don't think a hard discipline plan prevents this. It just handles it more rigidly... Some people do things cus they're told not to by authority.
Anywho, what dissapoints me is that no one on the team tipped coach on what was going on... He can't watch everyone, but it'd be nice if the team would look after its own best interest.
Sure its one thing to mind your own business, and I hate ratting on people for stuff.. But this isn't usual BS, its very serious felonious stuff.

Perhaps, but that wouldn't make it any less important.JoeFalcon wrote:You make some good points.cw08 wrote: When you play or coach football, you have to understand that. A ticket for underage is news, whether you like it or not.

Of course. No one is condoning serious criminal behavior, least of all Gregg Brandon.Jacobs4Heisman wrote: Perhaps, but that wouldn't make it any less important.
What it does is fuel the perception among the naive/casual fan that this is somehow unique to BG alone or pervasive within the greater program. There's a reason the college football sections of ESPN, SI and Sportsline are 80% police blotter in the off-season. Gregg Brandon's overall track record is far superior to most of his peers in the area of player discipline and conduct. He's been coaching for 5 years and just had a rough couple months. Many programs have had a rough couple decades.

Yesterday's PD had an article about an OSU player busted for DUI...of course they also mentioned that he would turn 21 later this year, which would make it TWO violations of U. rules. Biggest thing to me was that they busted him driving HIS CADILAC ESCALADE! This is what most college kids have to drive, right? $55,000 vehicles.JoeFalcon wrote:Of course. Ah, the wonderful Big 10. I'm sure we'll be told the money for the ride came from a MacArthur Foundation grant.Class of 61 wrote: Yesterday's PD had an article about an OSU player busted for DUI...of course they also mentioned that he would turn 21 later this year, which would make it TWO violations of U. rules.
