As disappointing as it is, there will always be that first kid who tests the new teacher! The success of that teacher is determined by how he handles the first incident. Clawson promised that this team would make the community proud. I think the new teacher is passing with flying marks.BGSU33 wrote:Very disappointing news to say the least!!! Wow.... this really isn’t what I was hoping to hear. I'll tell you what though, the two past off-seasons have been just killers for our defensive linemen. Between what happened with Barrow and Hardwick last year and now Reem this year, the off-the-field decision making has just wiped out our DL as both guys last year had several years of eligibility remaining. Reem was our only returning starter on the DL and now he’s gone too. But what can you do…

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I just hope this is the one and only issue we deal with this season in relation to this crap. After what happened last season with the break-ins, credit cards issues, etc., I'm getting really tired of reading about this sort of stuff. I hope this serves as a notice to the entire team, and I hope that message was received by each and every one of them.
GO BG!!!

Coach Clawson stepped up and clearly laid out what's expected. When Meyer arrived about 20 or so players that didn't want to buy into what it takes to win were gone. The rest shaped up and went 8-3 in 2001. Coach Clawson is showing there will be consequences for broken rules.
Clawson is a proven winner and I'm stoked to see what he can do.
Sping game is only 2 weeks away....love it.

I could be wrong but Meyer didn't drive off his best defensive player. Making a statement is one thing...doing something crazy is another. Just like Jimmy Johnson used to say when he was head coach of the Cowboys. "Aikman falls asleep in a team meeting, I wake him up. One of my rookies falls asleep in a team meeting...I release him." I hope he proves me wrong but it's tough to accept any actions from a coach that was in charge of an offense that scored 10 points at home against an absolutely awful Wyoming team last year. We scored over 40 on them with our "quarterback draws" and "receiver screens."

What you are wrong about cowboyjoe is that Clawson didn't drive Ream off the team, Ream drove himself off the team. If a team has rules at this level, as opposed to the pro level, then the players have to respect them and abide by them.
I don't know anything about Tennessee's team last year nor do I really care. But if you look at Clawson's previous coaching jobs I feel that he is more than qualified to run this team. To properly run a team the head coach has to implement rules and regulations and enforce them. If he has proven nothing else at least he has proven that he will stand by his own rules and regulations regardless who the person is that violates them.
Kudos to Clawson.

Dave Clawson took two Division I programs that were completely in the shitter and turned them into contenders very quickly. The team he predominately put together at Richmond just won a National Championship. Now he's coming to a program that is coming off a .500 season and an 8-5 season the year prior, this time around he actually has something to work with.
The cupboard isn't bare here, it just needs to be better organized. He doesn't need to bring BG back from the depths, he just needs to get us over the top. If history repeats itself, BG will be winning a lot of football games soon. Who cares about one single lame duck season at Tennessee. As a head coach the guy has been a force.

Normally I wouldn't waste my time responding to a post like this, and heaven knows I loved rubbing it in to my fiancee who is a Tennessee student that we were able to beat Wyoming that soundly and they lost to them, but even still, that game fell just three days (if memory serves correctly) after long time coach Phil Fulmer announced he had been basically been fired effective after the last game of the season. (Technically he "stepped down" but it was forced.) I agree it was time for Phil to go, but I also acknowledge that such an event definitely shook up that week for Tenn. The players were definitely not mentally in the game, as Fulmer had been involved with Tennessee football since he himself was a player in the late 60's, and was seen as a major institution at the university. Long story short, there was a major shake-up in the program just a few days before that game, which meant that the players were not mentally in the game. Wyoming seized that opportunity (and rightly so) and held the Vols back very well.cowboyjoe wrote: I hope he proves me wrong but it's tough to accept any actions from a coach that was in charge of an offense that scored 10 points at home against an absolutely awful Wyoming team last year. But remember, Wyoming wasn't the only opponent that BG and Tennessee shared last year. We weren't able to get it done against Northern Illinois, but the Vols did beat them.

Oh I know. Which is exactly why I mentioned it.footballguy51 wrote:You can't mention that. Exactly.redskins4ever wrote:Some want BG to be OSU and not care that players do drugs, drive drunk, or steal things... just so long as they win.
The rest of us believe that integrity and honor count for something.
The rest of us want to compete with Ohio State on the field and whip them in the classroom and life.
Eventually our Falcon Faithful will "Cowboy Up" to the new rule of Sheriff Clawson and once again be proud of our Falcons on and off the field.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

As much as I like Michael Ream, he isn't our best D player. I would say PJ Mahone or Jahmal Brown is.cowboyjoe wrote:I could be wrong but Meyer didn't drive off his best defensive player.
Look, this was Ream's 3rd failed test...what else do you expect a new coach to do? As I said before, I was a big fan of Ream but he made his own choices.
I want that freakin MAC trophy....and when all the guys are on the same page and know what to expect, we'll get it.
