Other thoughts.
The crowd stuck around, and was happy. Not the same "I'm amazed we won" feeling I'd seen in recent years. But proud. Lots of folks snapping pics of the scoreboard. Pleased at a quality effort that just simply FELT better.
Sheehan doesn't seem lost out there. Not like last year. He did lock onto his WR a couple times, including the INT. But he was clearly doing well in a scheme that was just simply better.
The kick returns looked good.
The secondary gained massive confidence in this game.
The passing game up the middle is cleaver. The variety of ways WRs are coming free, there is a real unpredictable nature to it.

...By the way, Phillips kicks were going right where they were supposed to, AWAY from the speedy Troy returners! As I said before, Troy has some nice players!...
That was Coach Clawson idea - keep it away from the speed demon. Phillips had a reat game. On the money each time.
Great game - Great win

Very impressed tonight, especially at the defense who was labeled as inexperienced. Early on things looked tough but the D hung with it and helped the offense take over the game. Much like the Pitt game last year but different circumstances IMO, I think Pitt did a lot more to lose that game last year than Troy did tonight.
Agree about the Barnes thing, it was great to see him dominate offensively but teams are gonna key on him from here on out. I liked what I saw out of Schiedler and Pronty though, and even Hodges.
Running game was a little flat but I was expecting that, it'll take a few games for that phase of the game to fully develop. I thought Geter looked very good though and quicker than last year. Bullock needs to be used when Sheehan is under center, the guy isn't mobile enough to run out of the shotgun.
Kudos to Clawson and his staff for making some huge adjustments. Troy likes to attack the perimeter of the defense and BG took that away in the 2nd half which led to the 2 interceptions. It's great to see adjustments be made and pay off. I know it's only one game but I'm sure this is a sign of things to come.
Fundamentally everything was sound tonight, good tackling, good containment and very disciplined. BG didn't allow the big play tonight and that was very important in getting momentum back in the game.
Lastly, I give the students major props, there were a ton of them at the game and it really helped the atmosphere. I expect to see more for the Boise game.

BTW - Was that Brandon making that coaching decision for Troy? How do you not take the three with 40 seconds left in the half?BGGrad01 wrote:Play of the game for me was the fourth down stop at the end of the first half. I thought we were going into the half down 2 scores with the momentum on their side. Big stop and Troy really struggled in the second half thanks to our defense.
Anyway, we were sitting directly at the stick for that play and it looked like a terrible spot to me by the refs. I was very surprised that the review did not overturn the play.

I'm suprised we won...the offense only put up 24pts instead of that 30 we're so used to getting...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Just a quick little editcowboyjoe wrote:Great job coach Clawson! You could really see his stamp on this team out there tonight. A very aggressive and swarming to the ball defense and a few new wrinkles on the offensive side of the ball. Excellent work against a very good and athletic team. I think Troy will score more than 14 points against Florida next week...I was WAY wrong about Clawson.

Great job by the students last night--they were loud the whole game.

The crowd was there the whole game, and happy to be there the entire time. Long long time, win or lose, since that was true.
I'm just highly impressed with how the coaches made adjustments. Not only at halftime, but all during the game. As Troy shifted, the defense matched. As the Falcon offense had to change, it did.
And was it me, or did it seem like the Falcons were getting the ball handed off much faster than before? In recent years you could phone a players mother and tell her that her son was about to get the ball, it took so long for even basic hand-offs to happen.

Now that you mention , I do remember seeing things happen much quicker in our offense this year as opposed to last's. Everything seemed much tighter and more concise than in years past. I like how this offense and defense is going.

It made the play action actually work too. That is one thing that surprised me a lot is how effective the play action was. Tyler seems to be pretty good at the fake -- I mean everyone in the stadium seemed to be fooled on a couple of those.
