Brian, because you've already gone this far, you should dip the bacon explosion in batter and deep fry it at the tailgate. I mean, doesn't there come a point when your food is so unbelievably unhealthy already that anything else you add to it just doesn't count?

Logistical question... won't bacon on the grill be a flame-up concern?? Guess we'll find out, huh? I'll try one of those poppers though! What time is that braided cholesterol bomb going on the grill?

LMAO...braided cholesterol bomb

Ideally it should be smoked, but I'll be cooking it indirect. Tough to maintain sub 250* temps on a Kettle, but that will be the target. Definitely couldn't be cooked directly over the coals though, definitely would cause too many flareups.

The ABTs should be awesome.

I'm hoping to have all of it on the grill by 1 or 2, and they should take around 2 hours to cook properly.

I was just planning on making a buffalo chicken dip and trying to get my buddy to make some chili as sort of a brunch kind of food.

Is anyone planning on heading out early and doing a breakfast tailgate? My family and I did that for the Minnesota game and it was a lot of fun. Problem is, my younger brother is out of the country and the rest of my family is out of state, so I lost most of the group that did that with me. If anyone's up for it, I'd like to, but I'm not sure yet if it'll work out.

Bah...defibrillators are for wusses!

Are you actually gonna come tailgate with us or gonna have another lame excuse about your children?

I can't wait to see everyone out there. I hope it doesn't rain too much, but if it does, we just get wet and still have a damn good time! I have heard that the firemen have the band coming out too...that's always a good time!

Marta you guys still have your TV so we can watch games throughout the day, right?

I'm so ready to finally have a REAL BG tailgate! It's been FAR too long.

JV football game at Perrysburg at 10:00. Then my daughter is going to be a 'ball girl' for the Falcon volleyball game at 3:00. Told my wife we need to be over tailgating after we get back from the football game. She thinks that is WAY too early. And my brother and his family is coming up for the game and they probably can't be there until like 5 or so. I may have to come over by myself. 8-)

Brian, got to admit, I've never heard of a bacon "explosion" before...my guess is there will be quite a few "explosions" after folks chomp on this...
Also, what exactly is an "abt"? Sorry to sound culinarily ignorant...just not used to your gourmet style tailgate fare. :axe:

I have to work until 5:00, but I will be hopping on the highway immediately afterwards, and I'm hoping to make it to the game shortly after kickoff. Looks like I'll be missing a ton of good food, but my arteries should be better off for it.

I haven't seen most of you in over a year, so you jerk offs had beeter still have a little bit of life left you after the game. :P

I believe that's short for Atomic Buffalo Turds.

hammb - I do a similar thing, but with a few twists ... either different peppers (pablanos or Italian sweet) and either straight goat cheese or goat cheese with roasted garlic and/or fresh cilantro. Do you finish yours with BBQ sauce?

Correct translation of the acronym '87. It's basically the label BBQers give to any stuffed pepper wrapped in bacon product.

I've never finished mine with BBQ sauce, but I could certainly see where it'd be awesome. I just can't get into goat cheese though, more power to ya...your imagination is the only limitation :)

Personally I've always just gone simple on ABTs. I usually just throw a hunk of monterey jack cheese in there, then wrap with bacon. They turn out awesome, but I wanted to try something different this time. I've got a bit of BBQ sauce in a jar I'm going to take out to glaze the bacon explosion as it nears completion. I could maybe spare a little for some of the ABTs as an experiment.

Den, as to the bacon explosion it has been an internet sensation for a few months (year?) now. Some dudes on a BBQ team threw one together on a whim, and put it up on their blog. BBQ sites everywhere latched onto it. I think it even got some coverage on mainstream media like good morning america or shows like that. This is the first time I've ever made one, and I've never even tasted it before. We shall see how it goes!

BO, sorry you're gonna miss the food, but I'm thrilled to hear you'll make it for the game! It's been awhile, man!

Also, if anybody needs a ticket I have one extra.

I'm going to bring a pint of the bhut jolokia salsa I just finished up about a half-hour ago. I haven't tasted it yet, but think it should be fab!

Brian, I've got a few rocoto peppers I'd like to make ABT's out of... or maybe just BT's (not sure about the bacon). They're pretty famous for their stuffed pepper properties in Central and S. America (rocoto relleno). http://images.google.com/images?q=rocoto+relleno" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but they're rarely grown around here.

Should I stuff a few myself and then "borrow" your grill? Or will you have extra "stuff" available?
