Current NCAA receiving statistics:
Receptions

2.Greg Salas, Hawaii - 93
T-3.Kerry Meier, Kansas & Danario Alexander, Missouri - 92
T-5.Jordan Shipley, Texas & Keith Smith, Purdue - 91
Golden Tate is 8th with 83
Also notable, Antonio Brown of Central Michigan is 10th with 80
Yards
1.Freddy Barnes, Bowling Green - 1482
2.Greg Salas, Hawaii - 1412
3.Danario Alexander, Missouri - 1411
4.Golden Tate, Notre Dame - 1295

T-3.Danario Alexander, Missouri & Ryan Broyles, Oklahoma & Golden Tate, Notre Dame - 12
Jordan Shipley is T-9th with 9

Don't care what anybody says. If Barnes pulls off the receiving triple crown and leads in catches, yards, AND touchdowns, he deserves the award. Period.

Unfortunately, we all know the chasm between deserves and gets can be pretty wide when it comes to college football.bgsufalcon24 wrote:If Barnes pulls off the receiving triple crown and leads in catches, yards, AND touchdowns, he deserves the award. Period.

Well, honestly if they gave it to Shipley, I wouldn't be up in arms about it. His team is undefeated and looking at going to the national championship game. Certainly that has to count for something.1987alum wrote:Unfortunately, we all know the chasm between deserves and gets can be pretty wide when it comes to college football.bgsufalcon24 wrote:If Barnes pulls off the receiving triple crown and leads in catches, yards, AND touchdowns, he deserves the award. My venom is more directed toward that guy from that certain irrelevant school in South Bend, Indiana. There's no reason that he should win, other than, "we'll we're Notre Dame, and you're Bowling Green". That's all he has to go on. And if that's the kind of stuff the committee votes are based off of, chances are they'll give it to Shipley because of Texas's great record.

Congrats to Freddie! This is much deserved!
The only individual offensive year that I can remember that would compare to his would have to be Omar's 40/4 year in 2004. Freddie is the most dominant offensive player in the MAC and if he doesn't win OPOY it'll be a sham.
I continue to be amazed at how well our staff moves him around and puts him in position to make plays even though everybody in the stadium knows he's our only real threat. Kudos to the coaches for doing a great job with him and even more kudos to Freddie for putting it all together. He's been a joy to watch.

Re: Barnes Makes Biletnikoff Short List!
How true is that? Unfortunately, the way I see it, Barnes needs to hope Golden Tate is shutout the rest of the way. Fair or not, this sport has become too much about money and big schools. I'd bet the committee doesn't even realize how tough a schedule BG actually played this season.1987alum wrote:Unfortunately, we all know the chasm between deserves and gets can be pretty wide when it comes to college football.bgsufalcon24 wrote:If Barnes pulls off the receiving triple crown and leads in catches, yards, AND touchdowns, he deserves the award. As nice as the press box was, I'm loving being able to root for the Falcons now. Too bad I have to do so from Illinois.

With how much everyone seems to want to slobber all over LeFevour, it wouldn't shock me if he got it. I understand he's a great player, but you have to consider the fact that he ranks around #20 or lower in nearly every statistical category for QBs.hammb wrote:Freddie is the most dominant offensive player in the MAC and if he doesn't win OPOY it'll be a sham.
