Did Greg Christopher really play football at Miami?
Re: Did Greg Christopher really play football at Miami?
I am the first to say that GC is a good guy on a personal level. I think he wants BG to be a winner and tries hard at achieving that goal. But he clearly is not up to the task. Our AD position is very difficult. Limited funds is a key impediment. But BG has been and can be a big time winner. I am talking a national stage winner. We have the platform many would-be ADs dream about including a stable conference that can be dominated (at times) w guaranteed bowls, access to the very best OOC competition for $/exposure, and hidden reserves within the alumni ranks that remain available to a program that can win consistently. As I have said before, GC is probably a good 2nd chair, say as an Associate AD, but he does not have elite skills to run the show especially at BG. We need a war time Consigliere.

If BG does start winning anytime soon, the role of the new facilities caqn't be underestimated-upgrade in Ice Rink, football offices, new basketball facility- some would like to think the AD didn't have a part in that but he obviously did. I gotta question some of his hires but Hell, he could have gone after Gene Cross in a big way and didn't. Everybody makes mistakes but from an administrative standpoint he's doing a lot-and even in terms of on-the-field success he's doing not very much with less than a lot of other people who aren't doing much.

That's what I don't understand. Obviously, a lot of people wanted Beckman, but the jury is not even into deliberations on Clawson yet. Orr finally has a senior class that he recruited. His hire could look very bad nine months from now, but it could also look very good. And he's managed to keep Curt Miller, or has had enough serendipity to retain him.h2oville rocket wrote: I gotta question some of his hires.
Maybe the angst is over non-revenue sports hires.

Nah. Lots of BG football fans on here, quite a few BG basketball fans but almost NO BG sports fans.

Our fans are kind of whiny...yeah, 2-10 sucked, but every program in the MAC has had to go through a stretch like that recently...hell Toledo and Miami stunk for multiple years. We might have a losing record again this year, but look at the talent we're bringing in. We're going to be fine....

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
