Ohio may have just won the East with that win
Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
And everyone in the East gets to play them but us for the past few years. If ever there was a team we could have used on the MAC schedule the last two years, Akron was it. Instead, this year we got crossover games with NIU and WMU along with our usual in UT. The sad thing is, Akron at least has a MAC Championship title from a few years ago. It's been almost 20 years since BG last won one. That said, in relation to our schedule this year, I sure hope the MAC schedule makers remember our slate this year when the schedule gets put together next season. Then again, who even knows what division we'll even be in...
GO BG!!!
Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
While I agree Akron would be nice to have on the schedule, other than this year, we've had pretty manageable MAC schedules. Even this year isn't bad. We have the facilities, there is really no excuse to not win. We are just stuck with an avg to below avg coach and a horrible AD. Clawson maybe deserves one more year to see if he can get it done, GC should be dismissed by the New Year.

Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
Ive never heard so much crying about having a tough schedule in my life. We are in the MAC and we cant cry about having to play other MAC schools. If you wanna cry so much about it than go play D3 football. Maybe you would like it better if we played Dayton and Baldwin wallace.. You want to cry because we have to play NIU and WMU.. How about we GET Better and start to improve our program like NIU and WMU and OHIO and Toledo and Ball state and yes Eastern Michigan have done... We cant complain about having to play other MAC schools. So many people making excuses on here... Now all the sudden its unfair because we dont play Akron? a few years ago you were crying because we did Play Akron when they were good..
Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
So as I watch BG beat Tiffin, would anybody else like to explain what is so great about Temple the MAC gains from?

And don't look now, but the Kent State Golden Flashes, who didn't have a I-A win 8 days ago, are now very much alive in the East Division race as well.
That makes 5 teams:
Ohio & Miami - 3-2
Temple 3-3
BGSU & Kent - 2-3
Why do I feel like nobody is going to finish with a winning record and the race will end up in a 4-way (possibly 5-way??) tie at 4-4. Better brush up on those tiebreaking procedures fellas.

Has anyone said it's unfair? Maybe I missed that.
Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
I do think it is rather stupid not to play everyone in your own division, and in this case, since we don't play the acorns, it is unfair!
Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
Not playing everyone in your own division is stupid. That should be done every year. Change the crossover games (except one) but leave the division alone. How else are you going to have a real champion?
That said, let's look closer to home for the reason(s) BG should only have one loss in the MAC (Western Michigan). In all the other games, we had TERRIBLE play calling in the red zone and too many turnovers. Correct those problems and BG is easily sitting at 4-1 and unbeaten against the East. They'd also be one win from being bowl eligible because they would have also beaten Wyoming.
BG has a problem, but it's not the schedule. First and foremost it's the offensive coordinator and beyond that, it's players that apparently aren't being taught the importance of ball security.

Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
BGWriter,
The MAC had it in 2007 so all team's played everybody in their division. 2007 was the first year with Temple in the league. Problem is, to do that, most teams played 8 conference games but a few played 7. Among the few that only played 7 conference games were Central Michigan and Miami, the divisional winners. Frankly, I'd rather everybody play 8 games than the 2007 method. Now what I don't get is why Akron and BG both missed a MAC game in 2008 and 2009, and then these two don't play each other in 2010 and 2011.
Now if you really want to make your head spin ... in 2008, BG and Temple didn't play each other. We finished 4-4 in conference play, but we finished 17 points from 8-0. Temple was in a pretty similar boat. Just imagine that tie-breaker for the east crown ...

Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
And that should just about do it for the East as Ohio just took down CMU. Looks like OU will be headed to Detroit for the MACC for the third time in the last six years. That is very impressive when you consider how bad that program once was not long ago, and it's something BG hasn't had a chance to do even once while even teams like Akron and Buffalo have (along with Miami). I don't see how BG is going to beat Ohio and the Bobcats have owned Miami (OU has won 5 in a row over them) and they already own the head- to-head win over Temple.
GO BG!!!
Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
Brings back into focus what the bottom line is. Bowl games and rankings don't mean squat without a title or two. BG can't even get to the darned game. At least Temple isn't going.BGSU33 wrote:And that should just about do it for the East as Ohio just took down CMU. Re: Ohio may have just won the East with that win
Agreed. Since the MACC has been moved to Detroit, we have seen MAC East teams like Akron, Buffalo and Miami go there and win it, and while Ohio hasn't yet, they are likely going for the third time in just six years.NWLB wrote:Brings back into focus what the bottom line is. It's hard for me to believe that we are now coming up on 20 years since BG won the MAC!!! That is crazy to me. We've seen fat punters (CMU), Big Ben (Miami) and blown leads (27-7 in the 4th quarter to Buffalo) all right on our backyard along the way though.
GO BG!!!
