Buffalo game
Re: Buffalo game
There it is. I was getting worried. It had been awhile since someone had bitched about this game.
Re: Buffalo game
I like the game being in Columbus the night before OSU/MIchigan near one of our biggest alum bases in the state for BG. I like taking changes and mixing things up. It beats having 10,000 at the Doyt on a cold November Saturday. Plus, we didn't know we might be playing for a championship when we scheduled it.

Re: Buffalo game
And let's be honest here. If we were 11-0 going into that game, and it was scheduled at the Doyt for Black Friday, we would still have 10,000 fans attend.Rollo83 wrote:I like the game being in Columbus the night before OSU/MIchigan near one of our biggest alum bases in the state for BG. Re: Buffalo game
And that would be the MAC and ESPN's fault since the MAC sold out to ESPN to be on whenever ESPN says. I usually say blaming ESPN is an overused excuse, but the Black Friday start time is on ESPN and the MAC. Of course that wouldn't allow you to hate on GC and the admin. so who needs to use factsfactman wrote:a "non" fan friendly time, etc, etc, etc.
MAC schools, Black Friday, cold November day - its going to be a unfriendly start time no matter when they play the game or where they play the game

HEY!
You complain the Athletic Department doesn't do this and they don't do that. That they're unimaginative and have no creativity.
So they decide that a game where there are no students on campus and played the day after Thanksgiving that would draw probably 7,000 people might be a good time to try something a little different and what are we complaining about?
I'm thinking that next year, instead of playing To...Tol....The School Up North at the Doyt, that we schedule them for Homecoming at Crew Stadium. Many of their fans don't like Perry Stadium as it is. Many of them do not understand how to drive into and out of BG and the stadium area. So play it in Columbus at Crew Stadium. That will shut them up about the Doyt and let them try to navigate parking by the fairgrounds.

Give it a chance.factman wrote:The game being in COLUMBUS is getting more comical as it goes!
This might be the DUMBEST idea, and there have been many, that this athletic administration has had. Moving a home game for a possible championship to a venue 2 hours away, a "non" fan friendly time, etc, etc, etc.
I know.......we could have Sam Hornish sign autographs, and the fans would roll in! I'm not sure a Madonna halftime show would help!
Re: Buffalo game
I remember (wish I could forget) the Buffalo game at the Doyt in 2008 when we could clinch. It was a cold Friday evening before Thanksgiving break. The students were on campus. We couldn't have had more than 7000 fans out there.
I applaud the the Athletic Department for looking at attendance trends and trying something different. There is only so much we can do to promote these home games. I do think the 11am kickoff is unfortunate, but we cannot control this.
... BTW, Buffalo won the East that year going 5-3 in the MAC, damn.

Re: Buffalo game
Just thinking about that Buffalo game in 08 gets me all fired up.
27-7 lead in the 4th Quarter, lost in double OT.
If any good came of it, I think Gregg Brandon lost his job that day.

Re: Buffalo game
Good point.......and we wouldn't have near as many scud fans there either, so that would be a BIG plus!transfer2BGSU wrote:HEY!

Re: Buffalo game
Does anyone know if the Falcon Club bus trips are adult beverage friendly? I don't want to be kicked off the bus in North Baltimore.

The last Falcon Club trip I was on was very adult beverage friendly.

13,284 was the announced...but yeah...it seemed much closer to the 9,000 range.thewebboy wrote:I remember (wish I could forget) the Buffalo game at the Doyt in 2008 when we could clinch. I was at that game in the band. I'm honestly not sure there were more than 2000 people at kickoff. That was the most empty I'd ever seen the Doyt for a game.Redwingtom wrote:13,284 was the announced...but yeah...it seemed much closer to the 9,000 range.thewebboy wrote:I remember (wish I could forget) the Buffalo game at the Doyt in 2008 when we could clinch. We typically do a pregame show before the game, but since less than 5 people showed up for it (I remember a father and his son being there who wanted to see the drumline) the band opted out of it. I felt really bad for the kid, especially after the game actually ended. The game was freezing cold and it snowed heavily for much of the first half. A lot of instruments in the band literally froze and stopped working. We were winning pretty comfortably for most of the game, so it wasn't that bad.
I know Clawson has the Humanitarian Bowl implosion under his belt (which honestly was mostly just Idaho being ballsy), but that was nothing in comparison to watching the entire BG team implode in the 4th quarter against Buffalo in 2008.
Just a reminder: BG was winning 27-7 against Buffalo with less than 13 minutes left in the 4th quarter during that game. That's a 20 point lead in the 4th quarter that we didn't hold on to. No, I do not miss Brandon one bit.
