There is mainstream media confirmation of the Temple thing.

yes but that doesn't mean he's taken the job yet. However if he's interviewing for it must mean he's interested in leaving.

Or he's interested in a pay raise/contract extension from BGSU.

I'm not saying he's leaving, just that the connection between him and the job has moved past internet rumors. Could still be wrong....

I have my extreme doubts the guy is seriously considering leaving for Temple. If he wants to move on from Bowling Green after building up a good program, now is not the right time, and Temple is not the right job. It is not that much of a step up, and it is a step into a conference that has totally fallen apart and has no stability. It is possible, though, that he is doing some practice for potential future interviews knowing that 2013 has the potential to be a gigantic season and put him in the spotlight for much bigger programs in much more stable conferences. Just my $.02.

And I hope Clawson seriously doesn't leave. He's a great coach and we are so lucky to have him.

Also, FWIW, I've read consistently that an Ohio State assistant has interviewed for the job, but that Clawson is "in the mix." That could very well mean some person in the Temple program leaked it so the press that the athletic director has Clawson on a short list but that does not mean any sort of interview. I've not seen anything saying he has interviewed for the program or has even been contacted by Temple.

Losing a coach to Temple just feels gross.

Agreed. But he's always been an East Coast guy, from New York, coached at, Albany, Lehigh, Buffalo, Villanova, Richmond, Fordham. Maybe his wife is from Philly.

If he leaves, he'll leave a lot of talent for the next guy.

19 returning starters. Would be a nice job for an up and comer. I have to say I have warmed up to him and would be sorry to see him go. I was impatient after we dropped down after his first year but he really did build that defense and despite my feelings about Schilz the offense is full of talent.

I would hope the discussion of replacement would include all those we named Strudrawa, Azzani, McCall, Durkin and Elko. I know there are two posters in these forums who know a great deal more about this stuff but those 5 seem like logical names to atleast be discussed.

Of the 13 HC jobs that have been filled so far. 9 have been filled by other NCAA Division 1 or Bowl or whatever other HCs, 1 by a Division 2 HC and 3 by coordinators only 1 of which was in house.

For comparison. Last year only 5 HCs moved from 1 HC job to another out of 27.

I know Studrwara and Durkin would be the flashy hires. But, I think Elko would be excellent, he has transformed the defense and done a great job in recruiting since he's been here.

If Clawson left it would be interesting to see how many on the staff would go with him. It seems like the entire coaching staff has east coast ties.

Also looks like San Jose State's MacIntyre is taking the Colorado job:

He was a front runner at Temple, also.

Really a fascinating shift. 2012 there were a ton of guys who got jobs as OC, or DC. This year its HC moving. It might be that when the dust settles we get more OC and DC to the lesser known schools who hire later as their coaches are swiped. That probably explains it, but its interesting. Another anomaly last year was 5 Ex HCs re entering coaching after a year or more out

2012
ex HC 5
HC 5
Coordinator 15
D2 1
Pros 1

According to Feldman at CBS, candidates at Temple include Mario Cristobal, Bob Diaco, Mark D'Onofrio, Stan Drayton, Chuck Heater and Matt Rhule. No mention of Clawson. IIRC Chuck Heater actually has a Temple background. Bob Diaco is one of the best assistants in the country. Mario Cristobal is looking for a new job after some conflict with the FIU administration and he is a really good coach.
