Dieter to transfer
Re: Dieter to transfer
But my question is, if you already have your undergraduate degree in 4 years, can you play your 5th year without taking any classes. If you have to take classes even with a degree then why enroll somewhere else as a Graduate student. Why stay at a school if they don't offer your program. I was just wondering if Gehrig could play this year without taking any classes since he will already have his degree.
Re: Dieter to transfer
Dieter is very smart as Mark just pointed out. That's why I made my comment earlier which GLOBE said was hilarious. Academics are very important to Gehrig and the Dieter family so that's why I said if he can get a start towards his masters and play football that's a win win situation.
Re: Dieter to transfer
The answer is no. He has to be enrolled as for anyone in any sport.

What Masters degree costs 120K? And what sport did you play?gmartin wrote:Globe. Academics are VERY important for Gehrig. If someone is offering you FREE education for a Master's degree why would you turn that down. Northwestern gave me $120,000 for my Masters. I wasn't going to turn that down. BG didn't have my Masters program. If BG had a Master's program I would have stayed. They didn't. So I went to Northwestern. I'm not sure what Gehrig is persuing his Masters in but as I said if BG doesn't offer the program you would be foolish to turn down an offer, and playing football makes it even better. What if it wasn't Alabama and it was Cincinnati or Rutgers, would you still have a problem. What if he enrolls at Alabama and doesn't even make the team or is 3rd string. Gehrig gave all he could give BG. I really don't see him transferring. I see it as him bettering his career and continuing his education. Good for Gehrig.
As for Deiter. He can do what he wants but I think the scenario you are playing out makes no sense logically in 2016 and college football. The National Champion isn't just having random seniors come in and play because they happened to be shopping for masters programs and "Oh hey, the best team in college football has it." That's not how big time college football works at all.

FWIW it is pretty hard to find a program that your school doesn't offer.
NCAA rule adopted in 2006 that gives a transfer immediate eligibility if he has earned his degree and seeks a graduate degree in a major not offered by his current school.

Re: Dieter to transfer
I have met his family and they are a fun group of people. Very passionate and their son is a helluva player and young man. I appreciate how well-spoken and humble he is. I was thrilled to hear he was coming to BG from SMU and was bummed when his petition to play without sitting out a year was declined. That said he's been fantastic to watch the past two years. "IF" he indeed doesn't play at BG next year I would be majorly bummed. I guess we'll see how it plays out.
GO BG!!!

MarkL wrote:1. Gehrig Dieter has at least one 4.0 semester, is a scholar athlete, and it runs in the family. If the grad school option is available ... for free ... then he should seriously consider it.
2. This is all coming from some guy at a bar via some poster on a message board. Not from Gehrig, not from anyone in the Dieter family, not from any player or coach, not from a journalist, hell, not even from some twitter user who claims to know. This is from some guy at a bar. So I suggest we all not get carried away here. Remember, the Dieters are on AZZ sometimes. Imagine if this is all false. Awkward ....
Without getting super defensive, like I said, I wouldn't have posted anything if I didn't trust my sources. Think it's coincidence his mom retweeted the Alabama WR coach's tweet of the Bama stadium that said "home sweet home"? Give me a break.

The cost of a Kellogg degree exceeds $300K. If NW gave me $120K for my master's I still couldn't afford it but it would be a tempting offer with better ROI.Globetrotter wrote: What Masters degree costs 120K?

News to me - and would have helped if you said that from the beginning. Don't take it personally, I am calling it as it is. Internet rumors get started all the time.lookimrory wrote:Think it's coincidence his mom retweeted the Alabama WR coach's tweet of the Bama stadium that said "home sweet home"?

I don't know about a master's, but a bachelor's at Juilliard will run you north of $250,000....

Re: Dieter to transfer
The Kellogg master's cost is exaggerated. I went to a rival MBA school in Chicago and the costs were all comparable. Several colleagues and friends got their master's from NW. All are definitely way north of $120k though.Globetrotter wrote:That's absolutely absurd.Rightupinthere wrote:The cost of a Kellogg degree exceeds $300K. Maybe that cost is the reason graduates from those schools feel they are worth so much more than the common folk. It embeds entitlement. They should throw in some ethics courses and lower the cost.drumstix2388 wrote:The Kellogg master's cost is exaggerated. I went to a rival MBA school in Chicago and the costs were all comparable. Re: Dieter to transfer
It would suck royally to see Deiter leave...he is an excellent player and a leader on the field. His GPA speaks for itself. He is exactly the type of student-athlete I want reppin' BG. I am as proud of our academics as our athletics. It's what makes BGSU such a great school and place. Let's see what happens in the coming weeks...He's a very smart kid and will figure out what's best for him. It's been great watching him play here.
