I'm sure it's situations like this that caused him to get out as quickly as he did.

I'll be at the coaches caravan tonight and I wonder if this will be addressed/asked. You'd think after the Jans incident that those in the athletic department would have educated all coaches on what not to do. It's a terrible look on the university and if players were kicked off the team around the same time last year for a similar incident, surely both of these guys are gone and the grad student better not hope he's removed from campus altogether.
Jp,
that thought crossed my mind as well....does it come up tonight? I am stunned...

See you there...
I guess Coach Jinx should have stayed home to "BABYSIT" rather than traveling around the state!

White stated at the scene that they "didn't give him enough time to leave' and "were too agressive" That did not include any indication that someone else threw the first punch. Sounds like he was drunk...didn't feel like leaving and got all punchy when he didn't get his way.,

I do not want this chucklehead associated with our University
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Too aggressive huh.

There's an assumption here that these guys have sophisticated knowledge of Bg bars.

Ever since I can remember, the goal is to keep your name out of the police blotter in BG. Simple enough. Any player would be bounced from the team. The GA is clearly gone, nothing to save him. Now, didn't a football coach get a 2/1 when he got a OVI and then ANOTHER OVI the same night?

I think they let him stay....until the legal process worked out, but I just don't remember. It was about 2 or 3 years ago.

It was William Durkin, if I recall correctly, he was placed on admin leave after which he had a few game suspension and had to go to a class of some sort but was able to come back.

The only reason a coach would be in that bar at that time is to make sure none of the players are in there.

Sorry about your mistake - get your resume updated and clean out your desk.

FWIW, both Freak and I spoke with Coach Jinks last night at the caravan and he acknowledged the incident but didn't really share many details. However, his tone of voice and facial expression made it obvious that he's rather cheesed off by the whole thing. I got the impression that neither coach will be around once the internal investigation by the university is complete.

Good.

THere are plenty of professions out there where I couldn't care less if a guy is out at 2:30 AM, and maybe even if he gets overly intoxicated and gets into it with a bouncer.

Coaching D1 College football isn't one of them. You are supposed to be an authority and role model for 18-22 year olds who you're trying to prevent doing exactly what those coaches just did. You also represent the alma mater of thousands, and getting your name in the paper for something like this is not how I want my university represented.

I'd argue what these guys are accused of is probably worse than what got Jans canned...

I know that, and I'm not surprised, nor do I care.

At BG I care far more about my coaches and teams to represent the university well than I do winning. Jans can win. He'll get another HC gig, and I bet he's VERY successful. The nature of having to take chances on young up & coming coaches is that we have to live with their "Oh f***" learning moments, and we got his. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't have another incident in a long coaching career. Still, dismissing him was the right move and necessary.

I feel the same way about these guys.
