List of names missing from the 2017 spring roster

I don’t know guest44 but it seems to me that he’s fed up with the Athletic Department as a whole. I’m not far behind him. It’s a department that doesn’t have to take much heat for their programs because the local media seems to be in bed with them. Many of their programs are downright terrible, yet nobody has to answer for them. A basketball coach gets fired under some shady circumstances, yet nobody from the news digs into it. 2 football coaches “supposedly assault” (happy flip?) a bouncer, yet nobody digs deeper into the story. A football player “supposedly assaults” a female at a bar, and nobody seems to be digging into it.gmartin wrote:Well he is a Guest. It's even in his name. It's the Journey... wrote:I'm curious. This athletic department settles for mediocre and terrible, and since their so buddy buddy with the local media their able to hide any attention worthy stories so they can keep their jobs. Even the coaches don’t get asked tough questions in their media sessions. But everyone accepts mediocre. Nobody wants to be great. We make excuses. We rant and rave about future recruiting classes that are going to be the savior of the program. Yet we refuse to look at and handle the real causes of our abysmal programs. They make terrible hires, yet they can’t admit they made a terrible hire and move on. They have to let that person rot out the length of his/her contract and pull the program deeper and deeper into the abyss.
It’s frustrating for any BGSU Fan. A lot have given up over the years. Some true fans still go to games and have to watch a terrible product just because they want to support their university. And some fans continue to post on here, positive or negative, because this is an outlet for them to voice their frustrations. The AD sure won’t listen to their frustrations. The local media wouldn’t dare cross the university that they get all their perks from and listen to their frustrations. So ay-ziggy-zoomba.com is what their left with.

They don't charge you with assaulting a man or a woman..they just charge you with assault. Seems a little cisgendered, heteronormative and patriarchical to bring gender into what is a gender neutral issueguest44 wrote:No they aren't. Nor is the headline BGSU football player charged with assault the same as BGSU football player charged with assaulting a woman. Atleast, "Not In Our Town".

Hardly a gender neutral issue........ but just keep defending.

Defending how?

What???? Flip, if you don’t think that a judge and public perception have different views and different outcomes (sentencing) for a guy hitting a woman compared to a guy getting into a fight with another guy, with both instances the person getting charged with assault, then you’re wrong. In today’s society a man on woman assault charge is worse than a man on man assault charge. I would venture that if anyone had the time and ability to look into it, that court cases and their sentencing would reflect that. The charge itself may just be “assault”, but their handled differently with stiffer punishments going to the guy that beat on a woman, and there should be.Flipper wrote:They don't charge you with assaulting a man or a woman..they just charge you with assault. Also, the public perception of a man hitting a woman is much worse than a man hitting a man. That’s why BGSU will pull all the media strings they have and do it’s best to sweep this puppy under the rug because signing days coming up and it’s the best recruiting class in the history of the BGSU Football Program!! We wouldn't want any unnecessary distractions. Pathetic.

Re: List of names missing from the 2017 spring roster
I'd have to see definitive data on sentencing in assault cases to buy the assertion that assaulting a woman leads to a longer sentence...I tend to doubt it. Seems like there'd be too much room for an appeal there if there was any kind of gender bias.
So far as my own personal feelings go...I don't think there's much use in hitting anyone, woman or man. What's the point? I suppose the presupposition is that the woman might be weaker...but what if the woman that got hit was Cyborg Santos and the man he could have clocked was Steven Hawking? Would you still perceive it differently?
I don' think the matter was swept under the rug...we're talking about it, right?
In the end, the gender won't matter. Pickrom is a student..if h's actually convicted of assault (and you have to remember this was in a bar...eyewitnesses a seldom reliable, probably worse when you factor in drinking) he'll likely face expulsion under the code of student conduct or whatever it's called

So what would happen today if Bruce "Caitlyn" Jenner got into a fight. What if Jenner was assulted by another guy.

What are you talking about? We have won the football championship 2 out of the last 4 years, and many of the Olympic Sports we are competitive. Your argument that they need to admit terrible hires and move on is laughable. Where is the cash to do that? Are you going to write a check to make this happen? I agree in the beginning of the year the football team was painful to watch, but towards the end I started to see some glimmers of hope. Now on paper we have a decent recruiting class coming in, but it will take 2-3 years to see if those will bring us success.CrazyFan wrote:I don’t know guest44 but it seems to me that he’s fed up with the Athletic Department as a whole. I get that its frustrating to watch a team lose, but we are not Ohio State or Alabama for that matter. MAC sports go in cycles, it wasn't long ago that CMU was high up on the mountain top, and a few coaches leaving, they were starting over again. Now they are a decent MAC program with a chance to win. NIU, who had a great streak is starting to see what happens when coaches leave. You lose out on recruiting, and eventually there is a talent drain on the program. It happened to us and it will happen to any team that is able to win and be at the top of the league.
Finally, what have you given up? Time? Money? If so, just stop. Its that easy. The AD has a lot bigger issues on his plate then a fan who thinks they know all of the answers. But if you do know all the answers, apply to be the AD when the position is open again, and I will be a reference.

Kudos to John Wagner for ignoring the incident all together. That's top notch selective reporting as a beat writer. I sure hope BGSU rewards John with his sauce of choice tonight, or maybe even spend the extra few bucks and go "all drums".

No, just a few people with an ax to grind. They usually disappear after a little while once they realize that the constant complaining will get them nowhere. They are miserable people, and misery loves company.Schadenfreude wrote:This board is getting toxic.

Re: List of names missing from the 2017 spring roster
I've been here since 2005. Violent people love company too. Is it shocking that coaches involved in fights recruit a player who hits a woman? Be honest. Or is it just another coincidence?
