Hard to have any defense of this coach. Five year rebuilding program on any level is ridiculous. If anything, the football program is going backwards. I also find it hard to believe that a university such as BGSU doesn’t have the resources to buy Jinks out. Three years of futility is enough. This team isn’t even competitive. It is also a poor reflection on the university to be playing in an empty stadium week in and week out. A change must be made.

But Jinks has had 2 full recruiting classes. So the oldest players of his are sophomores... so anyone that's been here longer than that isn't his. It's his responsibility to develop them, but we must remember that they came from Babers' weak classes (7th and 8th in the MAC and 106th and 104th in the nation, respectively).

Jinks is risking his job to build a program the right way. He’s not throwing guys in there before they’re ready. He likes to redshirt guys to get them a year of experience in the system and a year of adding muscle and putting on weight so they’re physically ready for D1 football. It's a very real strategy, and it's used by lots of coaches. The reason it isn't working is because fans are impatient and expect results now from Babers' guys. If he just threw guys out there against Oregon, Maryland, GT, etc., they would get killed.

He’s taking the long approach. It’s VERY risky - especially in the modern age where we live in the moment and expect instant results.

There's a ton of talent that we haven't even seen yet. For example:

We haven’t seen DeAndre Fitz-Henley or Antwaun Jackson yet. They’re red-shirting. They’re both 3-star inside linebackers that have a lot of potential.

We haven’t seen Cameron Stage yet. He’s a 3-star offensive guard. He appears to be red-shirting.

We haven’t seen Jake Papez and Brad Papez. One’s a 3-star tight end, one’s a 3-star tackle. They appear to be red-shirting.

I don't believe we have seen Jevon Henderson yet. He’s a 3-star defensive tackle, and he appears to be red-shirting.

We haven’t seen Jordan Murphy yet. He was a 3-star defensive end in 2017. He redshirted last year.

Again, I'm truly not trying to make excuses. But just imagine the type of guys we have just waiting in the shadows for their opportunity - one that can only come in due time.

A program is not rebuilt overnight.
Why does his first class get a pass? You dont give the same favors to Dino.

His first class? As in the current sophomores? I count 2017 as his first full class, because they came after his first full year here.

Guys like Doege, Clair, Morris, Coleman, Croslen, etc. I don't think he needs a pass for that class. To me, they're performing, and their talent level is a step above guys who are older and have been around longer.

I personally leave 2016 out as a dead year, in terms of recruiting. They're primarily Dino's kids, but they signed after Jinks was hired. There was some attrition which can naturally be linked to a coaching change.

Jinks is not "building the right way"...Clawson did by recruiting mainly HS players and taking his lumps. Jinks has run in a steady stream of JUCO's and transfers who mostly either blow out or fail to live up to billing or kick women in the head while yelling "where's my weed at"
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Some good points here. If he really is keeping talented redshirts off the field as part of a longer term plan, this isn't being communicated very well.

There is no Defense for Coach Jinks,

Jink has said it time after time in his presser. No excuse, He was brought to BGSU to win not rebuild. There was nothing to rebuild because we just won the MAC the year before. This guy has taken 2 million from the university and its’ time for him to go. He should have been gone by Monday with a presser on Tuesday. Look at what Oklahoma did, they fired a coach after one lose.
Stop making excuses for failure when you are paid more than you will ever make again.
Also time to rid the Athletic Department as well. Clean house, get the politics out.
Please look at the facts, go back and listen to Jinks 28 pressers. Same tired lines. Time to rid the bad and bring in the new.

This makes no sense to me. We have a brand new athletic director. It seems like you have a hidden agenda here.

Jinks is smart enough to know that there's a crowd with torches and pitchforks milling around outside his front door. If he was sitting on loads of talented freshmen that were capable of helping this team perform, they would be in there now --- to save his job. He wouldn't be saving them for later. Besides, with the rule change, he can play them 4 games and still redshirt them. Guys that haven't played yet, haven't played because the coaches haven't determined that they could help us win now.

More importantly: why are we redshirting this talent? It's not like any of these guys is likely to leave early for the NFL. So, PLAY THEM NOW. Let them learn on the job; then they'll have three years left to get better and better. I think it's a foolish strategy, especially if you don't have good front-line talent. There's no guarantee that redshirt seniors are going to miraculously lead you to some promised land. And if you keep having horrid seasons like this, how many of those guys will end up transferring out, anyway? If they're playing, then at least they are contributing (and likely helping). I just don't get this.

Agreed. I have had dealings with this AD and his staff, and feel very comfortable with how they are conducting business. So far, we know that Moose's first hire is LIKELY a good one (Fralick). Judging by the three recruits she already has verbals from, she's likely going to turn this women's program back around in two years or less. At the risk of repeating myself: I set up a baseball scholarship with this crew, and I can tell you they bent over backwards to make sure everything was done right. And while that process was on-going, I was privileged to hear about many other efforts being made to bring in donors to create more scholarships in various sports -- all so the Athletic Department can eventually support itself (or at least come close). There are a lot of these kinds of success stories nobody ever hears about.

Until I see some proof that they are lacking enough to move on...there's no need to.

The reason for red-shirting the talent is because they're not physically ready for the grind of Division 1 football. We threw Doege in last year and he got split in half on a simple hit, and he missed a couple games in the middle of the season because he was an 18 year old boy playing against 22 year old men.

Strength and conditioning plays a huge role in whether or not a guy will play. If a guy is going to be a stick out there and get crushed, why ruin his career? Instead, let him sit for a year and develop with the strength staff so he is able to withstand the physical toll the game takes on his body.

Whether you agree with it or not, that's a strategy used by programs everywhere in the country. It's just that they have the ability to do so, since they have established talented depth and don't have to throw freshmen in who are not ready. We don't have that luxury, to sit guys and still win. It was a risky move, but Jinks chose the long run over risking a guy's health and future. If nothing else, his care for our players' well-beings is admirable.

Do you actually know all this to be fact or are these all more of your pro Jinks theories.?

In conversations with guys I know around the team, this is what is taking place.

I don't have pro-Jinks theories. I simply present facts or at least what I believe with near certainty to be facts, and I present them in a way that considers other factors that can impact how others view them.

I think he's a nice guy who is deservedly taking lots of hits from this fan base for losing games. He needs to start winning, period. I'm just as anxious and angry as the rest of you - I just feel that there are more factors to consider in his performance and what impacts it beyond just wins and losses.
