Every other year, sure. Miami(OH) has our number. Everyone else has been a home and home proposition at worst the last five years.

Seriously, be glad you're not making the trip to the Doyt this year. Though I would love to see us throw down on a neutral field. Say Detroit in early December?

Amstutz is in Joe Novak's head like a Muzak version of "Mandy". It will be a UT/BGSU deathmatch inb Detroit. Too bad the Cobo arena can't be configured for football. Pompero Firpo could have done the coin toss

I wasn't goign to waste my time positng on these types of threads buit I flet this needed to be said. Please don't disown me for this but since i am married to an OSU alum, and one that is very upset about some of the goings on down there right now, so I find it a little hard to diss on Ohio State. I mean if he is an OSU fan that can cheer for the Falcons, than the least I can do is cheer for his team too. Anyone that knows Ed knows that when you get him at a BG game you almost forget that he went to Ohio State, unless we are playing them, but even then he wears an Ohio State jersey and a BG ballcap. I have season tickets for football and always go to at least 2 away football games besides the Toledo game, I attended all of the women's basketball games except one, attended a couple women's road games, even rode the team bus down to Ball State with the ladies last season, attend several home hockey games, and go to at least one home volleyball and baseball game every year. I also have been to the football and women's basketball banquets and both the Motor City and GMAC Bowls. So if I want to cheer for Ohio State also, that defintiley doesn't make me any less of a falcon fan.

Michelle,

There are a couple of us who realize it is perfectly possible to be both an OSU & Falcon fan. We're best off avoiding these sorts of threads altogether, though. I try to, anyways.

There is nothing wrong with rooting for more than one team, as long as you aren't rooting for one team at the others game, lol. That is unless they are playing each other and that it a whole different story. What really stinks about these kinds of threads is people feel they must defent themselves. We are all Falcon fans hereand are all loyal to the cause. Just because some of us happen to also like other teams does not automatically place a big old target on our heads. Let s just keep this a pro-falcon site and not an anti-other team site unless it directly relates to BGSU, ie other MAC schools. Thanks

Ugh - not to be pissy - but I don't care if you root for Ohio State or Michigan or Oklahoma.

I am saying, and I am sorry if this wasn't clear, that there are BG grads who don't even FOLLOW BG football, but are Ohio State football fans. I can't understand that. Root for your alma mater! Now is the time to try to get those BG grads to take interest. I also wish Ohio State would do well. I was born an OSU fan. But, those BG grads who have completely left BG sports behind in favor of the OSU bandwagon bother me.

We need more fans like you. We need people who can make room for a BG game. Rooting for OSU doesn't make you any less of a Falcon Fan and I in no way meant to insinuate that.

Here is an idea, lets use the telefund phone bank that alumni development has for a major push for season tickets. Maybe even cut them an additional price break if the sign up over the phone. That way we can reach more alumni, even the ones that root for other schools over BGSU. Give them an incentive. If they do not attend BG games that may be because of something that occurred while they were here that has left a sour taste in their mouths. I think we all remember the 6 dark years of BG football. It may also be something on the academic side and they have abandoned the University completly. We may never get those people back. But if we want to increase season ticket holders then we need to go and get them. Waiting for them to come to us isn't working anymore.

here is an idea

Post by tekekini »

get over it. you will never be able to make very single person at the university follow bg football or bg sports all together. thats what happens when your located in the middle of two of the biggest college football schools, towns and atmosphere in UofM and OSU. They play for all the marbles, a national title. BG gets a MACC and thats about it. it sucks but its a fact. there are people who will only root for michigan or osu because BG isnt going anywhere. People dont come to BG because of the football team. I came for business school. Others come for the education program or whatever. some come here because osu is too big so they come here for that reason with no interest in football. some people dont give a damn about sports period.
point is just deal with it and stop bitching about it. its getting old :x

Bowling Green may play in the Orange Bowl this year.

Just maybe.

Well, thanks for the education. Since that is the case lets just chuck the whole athletic department and spend the money elsewhere. I think saying that NO ONE comes to BG because of football is a slap in the face of those members of the football team. The fact is, we do a horrible job ot marketing our product and clutivating our alumni base. Some in the season ticket thread are talking about the Toledo game being a gauranteed sell out. Unless we are ranked in the top 15 at that point and Toledo is leading the West I don't see it happening. And that is because of the reasons stated above. People come to BG for all sorts of reasons.

Way to go Buckeyes. I'm thinking about jumping ship and becoming an OSU fan after all of these wonderful articles. Who said there is no such thing as bad publicity. OSU is obviously a marketing Mecca for bad publicity.

That story is just shocking I don't believe it. Why would a young man and a great student athlete at The Ohio State University do that? Since squeaky clean Jim Tressel came to direct the program this stuff doesn't happen anymore. It only happened under Cooper. Once again it's just the media making something out of nothing.

let me throw something out there - don't we have a legit heisman candidate? Havent' we been ranked in the top 25 4 years in a row? Has Gameday ever visited, say, Illinois? Is BG on the same level as Ohio State? no. What about Indiana? Northwestern? even Minnesota and Purdue? it depends on your definition of level. Our football team is VERY comparable to those middle big 10 teams. Our fan support is not. We ARE D-IA.

Let's stop being so complacent about our fan support. We should NOT have to settle for 17,000. Well, it was raining. It's too long of a walk. I don't like the game time.

SOME of us would like to see BG become big time. Our football program is light years ahead of our fan base.

I know some of you are overly sensitive about being tOSU or UM fans. I am not asking you to change. Why should you? I have two friends following BG football. One attended BG, one graduated from BG. It's casual right now, but they like rooting for a team with an offense like ours who wins games by scoring 70 points on Temple. We have "the next roethlisberger." Is that bad for BGSU? That is what I am challenging people to do.

One more thing - everyone here has a right to a.) root for OSU or b.) trash OSU. I suggest we quit bitching about both positions and focus on what the issues with OSU could do for BGSU.

I want everyone who is defending their position to take off your blinders and see that we need some bandwagon fans. I have only been a BG fan since 1991, but I doubt you will find that many more passionate about BG football. I got hooked when they were good, and have been hooked ever since!!!

Come on, this isn't anti-OSU. We should find a way to use the misfortune at OSU to our advantage.

the problem is

Post by tekekini »

that the players have the same method of thinking as the rest of the country's college football fans and that is that mid majors are weak. it's going to be a while still before mid majors can break that and put the same quality of teams as majority of the bigger programs do every year. i dont think they will ever become the powerhouses that the osu and michigans or texas & oklahomas are. but to even have a chance they have to make the players believe it and want to come here
