Mmmmmmm. Sounds yummy. I love when food makes you move just sitting there.

To bring this back around: the SEC 'recruits' to win. You simply can't compare the two conferences. The one conference comprises schools which collectively go out and recruit the best possible kids to attend their schools and to play football. These kids go to classes, study hard, play football to the best of their abilities, and eventually graduate and become productive members of society.

The other conference comprises schools who sell a bunch of t-shirts.

(2) If you're feeling churlish, you can blame Central Michigan for the BCS. (Read Roy Kramer's bio.)

(3) Baylor had a very good football team when Grant Teaff was still there. I won't embarass any real or hypothetical former players by reminding y'all how long it has been since he retired.

(4) Botox's cookies sound great, but I'll take a pass, even if she relents and brings them to the tailgate. I don't trust a lawyer not to make a batch of 'em for y'all using chopped up pieces of Ex-Lax. :P
I love DevilGrad... I wish he went to school here, but he is a very important Harvard law/Miami grad who doesn't grace us with his presence near enough. BTW, unnamed Big 12/ SWC player I am related to by marriage played for Teaff (thanks for confirming they didn't suck DG, but yeah, you're right, I am OLD :( ).

Cookies anyone???

I've got a soft spot for the Bears since several of Mrs. DG's relatives went to school there. Plus, one of my grad school roommates at Duke was a Bear, and I attended Baylor's season opener at Georgia one year when I was living down South.

You're too kind to suggest that I spend more time here -- and probably in the minority in that view. I tend to kill off the non-tax portions of conference calls keeping an eye on MiamiHawktalk.com, and you can nearly always track me down over there.

Mmmmm . . . cookies.

Since you are in my general age demo, you probably saw the unnamed Big 12/ SWC player play. I KNOW he played Between the Hedges because that was one of his favorite games & I have seen game film. (I think they lost though). Cool deal!

They did lose, but it was a pretty close game. IIRC, Eric Zeier was the QB for Georgia, and Baylor had a lights-out LB (James Francis) who later played for the Bengals.

I sat with the Baylor band for that game (my Duke roomie was a former percussionist) and had a great time. For all of the SEC's moral failings as a purveyor of *college* athletics, they do throw one hell of a party on game day. I passed an entire parking lot full of RVs, and our local hosts (Baylor alums doing graduate work at UGA) told us that the first RVs arrive in Athens on Tuesdays before home games.

One thing I'll always remember from that game is how miserable the damn bear was. It was one of those 95-degree, 95% humidity days in Athens, and the poor bear only made it through about half the second quarter before they had to take it under the grandstand for some AC.

I was on the lookout for Fred Schneider or Michael Stipe but never spotted either of them.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Let's back up the assumption wagon for a minute here! I was in no way trying to say that the MAC is better or even equal to the SEC in terms of talent and tradition. We aren't, there is no getting around that.

What I have been objecting to is the claim that SEC football is somehow "a better game" than football in any other DI conference. It is the same, and often better *quality* of football in terms of method and entertainment value.

And Botox, calm down about the Bears.

I think the SEC sucks and I think the ACC sucks. dont ask me why, I just do. I think the top 3 big ten teams OSU UM and Iowa can beat any team in those conferences 9 times out of 10. especially with saban out of LSU. Auburn i dont know what they are worth without cadillac, brown and the whats his name QB that all left...

I also think that BG and UT can beat any of them, maybe not 9 out of 10 times..but definately more than 1 out of 10. NIU not so much...maybe with wolfe still there? but he may be too small to run on the bigger defenses of the ACC and SEC

Now, who can argue with that logic?

B11 fans can't. That much is obvious from this post...

I knew you were kidding. So was I!!!

What we ought to do is just do a College Pick Em like the Yahoo one:

http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/college

That way, all the Mac Homers & the Big 10 Homers & the SEC Homers & the (EXTREMELY WISE) Big 12 Homers can prove how right they are. I have never put one together, but I won the one at my old firm. If y'all were interested in doing it, we could work on putting it together. That way, all the people who say "stupid Botox is a girl" or "BG can beat anybody anyday" can prove who is really right.

Just a suggestion!

That raises another important issue. I'd say that apples are better than oranges, but not that they're in a completely different league of fruit.
