I was thinking the same thing about the MAC Champ getting beaten at home by Army. What a wacky season it was in the MAC this year! I also think Akron is going to be a force next season. I see NIU and UT being the top teams in the West, and Ohio and Akron being the top teams in the East. My crystal ball tonight says NIU vs. Ohio in the MACC next season.
First of all, you crystal ball is obviously on crack - or drunk, passed out and slumped over it's steering wheel going the wrong way on a one-way street with it's foot on the brake while still in drive. If there is a God, and I am a firm believer that there is, Ohio will be terrible FOREVER for the way they have handled the "Huggy, Jr." situation.

Seriously, though, I don't know that Akron will be an immovable force next year because they are going to be losing quite a few skill players this year. I think, even with our losses after this season, that we will be a MUCH better team than Akron next year as we were this year. The wild card in that situation is coaching. J.D. Brookhart, at this point, is clearly a MUCH better coach than out our beloved Coach B. That may change this year (and I think it will, personally - begin throwing rocks now), but that is the way I see it. Talent and coaching aside, I think the MAC is a two team race next year - between Akron and BG (wait - has the world ended?).

As for OU, that program isn't going anywhere, as well it shouldn't. That school has become a black-mark on the MAC, and because of "Frank the Tank's" actions, every school in the conference - including Buffalo - has a recruiting edge over them. I don't care where the f&*k Frank came from.

Exactly. Why would Mom and Dad send their son to play football for that guy at OU when there are decent programs at BG, UT, Miami, and Akron just as close to home?

I'll bet every recruit OU is in on will hear a nice back door mention of Frankie's drunken rampage.

You could say something like "I'm not sure if OU's coaching situation is stable. You have to figure there'll be a lot of pressure on Solich after what happened with the police and all...oh, you didn't hear about the DUI?"

Maybe mom & dad will want their sons to get the "full college experience" and will want them to go to OU? :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers:

Although speaking of... I'm sure everyone else heard about Akron's kicker coming back to school after TWO DUI's... interesting how second chances work sometimes.

Hah... keep dreaming on that one. OU doesn't have the talent (and apparently now we see the leadership) to contend in the East. McRae is solid in the backfield, but the WR's are awful. The Bobcats are losing some key players on D as well (Dion Byrum for one)

Ed,
For what it's worth, don't forget that Brookhart was the MAC coach of the year LAST year...so I'm not sure he's underrated...as a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see him be the next "hot" MAC coach to be courted by some of the "biggies"...... replacing GB in that capacity...plus the guys at the "directional" Michigans all did a fair job of improving their teams.... it seems to me that the MAC's traditional big boys (NIU, UT,BG and Miami) all slid back a bit this year and the Middle of the pack teams improved. When you think of the scenerio of the last 2 weeks, when SEVEN teams could've been in this game, depending on what happened, I think it spells it out much better. (BG,MU,AKRON,OU in East, UT,NIU,WMU in West)

I am surprised after reading this thread that NO ONE mentioned how pitiful the crowd was at the freakin MAC Championship Game. Again, I don't live close by anymore, and no one down here even gives the MAC a 2nd thought . And I agree, it was a good game. But the football expert at my house & I agreed, NIU & Akron in the MACC was a joke. Per him, "this is an up and coming conference and this is the best they have to offer?" Personally, thought the whole thing SUCKED!

A dui in this couontry with our rules is only maginaly worse than a speeding ticket or wreckless op. How many do you know who have had a a few drinks and drove? How many when you were around? your no better. how about pot? Lets face it, the truth is it will have zero effect on OUs recruits, remember they are recruited to play football, not bible study or how a very, very comon event should cause the shuning of an individual.

Attendance was awful and it probably always will be unless Toledo or one of the Michigan's were involved. I know that they want a neutral site for fairness, and it makes perfect sense. However, I think I'd rather see it at the better team's house and give them the home field advantage. You look at last night's game and you had NIU at 5 1/2 hours away from Detroit playing against Akron at about 3 hours away from Detroit. The game took place on a weekday which would make attending it require at least a half day off on Thursday, and most likely a half or full day off on Friday. Then you give Akron 7 day's notice and NIU 8.

How in the bloody hell do you expect these teams to fill up an NFL stadium? Or even put a respectable number in there!?

I was apprehensive about the idea at the time and after watching a great football game with no fan support last night, I hate it even more. Then I think back to the atmosphere that was the 2003 MAC championship game. Sure that game matched the best MAC team ever with one that was pretty darn good, in the strongest year in MAC history, but I still think that you don't have near that atmosphere in Detroit. I know the big boys all play their games on neutral turf, but unless we're going to move it to Saturday's to give people more options (which I'm not sure would even help with our general fan support), I think we have to leave the championship game on the campuses. I think it looks REALLY crappy for the conference to show a championship game on national TV with so few fans there.

I was an insurance adjuster for 6 years....I have been inside of mangled cars that people were seriously injured or killed in because some drunk took to the road. I had the pleasure of handling a fatality involving an 18 year old who wiped out a motorcycle when he was drunk.

Don't tell me that DUI's are a minor issue...
