He didn't cancel his visit and Toledo's offer is still out there. He's just not a priority anymore. I have heard that his grades should be OK to get into college now, but someone like that is going to be an academic question mark the whole time he is in college and with the NCAA APR Score you can't afford to take too many chances. If he doesn't choose Ball State, he could still end up at Toledo depending on a couple of other players being recruited.

"Actually Oregon is an option as they are picking up 3 qb's in this class. Sean went to Akron thinking he would go check it out but kinda wasn't that interested because he liked the offense and coaches at BG so much. When he visited he really changed his mind after seeing the indoor facility, campus, and really looking at their offense closer (similar to denver broncos). Sean is looking at making his decision within the next couple weeks. Iowa has been calling and came and visited him at school so if they offer this week they will get a visit, if not they will be crossed off. Latest news on Hakes from Rivals: Ft. Worth (Texas) Catholic quarterback Sean Hakes is going to be playing his college football in the Midwest and the MAC, it's just a matter of which school he selects on Wednesday.

He has narrowed it down to Akron or BG. Check for an anouncement tomorrow.

BGSU's inability to recruit top in-state prospects continues. According to Rivals, BGSU is not in the running for any of the top 50 in Ohio. Granted, these ratings are often questionable, but the more top 50's a team gets, the more likely they will get great players.

I hear this time and time again - there's a feeling of family. I heard it from the father of a golf recruit (seriously) on my trip back this fall. I've heard it from several football parents.

Given Brandon's propsensity for redshirting, I'm stunned to read this.

Fells said he spoke with (fellow Palatka alum) Sharon, but was shown the campus by a junior running back who will become one of his teammates with the Falcons.

The Meyer Graduating classes that have led us to our success included players from around the country, as do UT's. The weakest classes we have are Ohio-heavy.

Throw a few more pounds on the kid and suit him up. We certainly need help at linebacker, which definitely appears to be our weakest group on the team heading into next year (kickers not included).

Are we sacrificing attention towards Ohio kids in favor of recruiting in far off places like Florida, Texas, Georgia, etc.? I love the guys we're getting from down there like Sharon, Jacobs, Smith, but Ohio is a great football state and most of our studs seem to be from out of state. I'm not saying it should be one way or the other, because I have no idea which approach would yield the best results. Just raising a point.

I don't think we're short shrifting Ohio at all. We have verbals from Ty Pronty, Tyler Sheehan, Darius Smith and Vincent Corner and they're al Ohioans.

We're recruiting the Krauss kid from Patrick Henry, Marcus Hyde from Fostoria, PJ Mahone from Elyria and Joe Morgan from Cleveland.
I think they prefer to get what we need form Ohio, but sometimes you have to look elsewhere....

That being said, I'm stunned that Brandon would tell a freshman he has a shot at starting. Note the kid said starting, not just playing.

Our LBs were, collectively, a disappointing bunch last year. As pointed out elsewhere, speed was a real issue and that's why we saw a few DBs moved to LB. It's probably why Brandon is talking to Winovich about moving to yet another position.

Looking toward 2006, as things stand now, I'd have to pencil in White, Winovich and Briggs as the starters at LB. Now, Briggs played both LB and DE, so who knows that means. Then we have the possibility of Winovich moving to another position (likely DE).

Other names in play - Will Myles (converted from DB), Scott Goodwin (limited PT last year), John Haneline, Adrian Baker.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against recruiting nationally. But, the reason why BG's Ohio-heavy classes are weak is because BG doesn't land much top quality in-state talent. If you look at Rivals, Miami has already landed 3 of Ohio's top 50.

**I should add that I doubt BG is ignoring Ohio. I am simply pointing-out that it would be nice to land some of the kids that go to WVU, BC, Pitt, or the Big Ten (outside of OSU, UM, and Penn St. - I'm trying to be realistic here).

I agree with you....there's a number of kids from Ohio that go to BCS schools other than Notre Dame, OSU and Michigan. We can't compete with those three, but I'd like to see us start getting back some of those kids that are going to UC, Pitt and other second and third tier BCS schools that have no more of a chance of playing for the national title than we do.

On the subject of the top 50, bear in mind that there are a number of kids on that list who don't get D1A offers every year.

The only reasons a top 50 kid wouldn't go D1A would be because of things "outside the lines". Ohio has about 140 - 150 kids go D1A every year.
