I'm a believer in the devil you know is better than the devil you don't. Having said that, I think we've reached the zenith of where Scot can take this program. The question becomes if you want to have a Chris Creighton type coach who can probably get you to 6-7 wins every year, or if you want to change directions and see if someone can push it to 8, 9, 10 wins? There's risk both ways and that's why DVDM is getting paid a lot of money to make those decisions.Flipper wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 9:42 am We're in a tough spot. Team improved this year...but it could have been and probably should have been better. Not being ready to play against Kent and Buffalo and losing to EKU ruined what could have been a really good year...in at least one of those losses the HC took the blame.
We probably aren't going to fire him...but if we want the program to improve....given the persistent issues with the offense, on field discipline and the rumors of behind the scenes issues...shouldn't it be on the table?
If OU beats us convincingly and we make a bowl and get fustigated...does that outweigh six wins? Is Scot Loeffler Jim Caldwell in Detroit? Get's the team to a playoff appearance or two and loses in rd one? Caldwell got let go because he had hit a perceived ceiling...is this Loeffler's perceived ceiling? I kinda think so...offense underperforms and his insistence in keeping it and Matt McDonald around...perhaps in 2023!...leads me to say yes.
Of course...Matt Patricia followed Caldwell in Detroit...so yo definitely need to be careful what you wish for...

Kinda cool to see inside the locker room. Never know for sure, but it does seem like these guys want to play for Scot and they seem to really respect the guy.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 12:19 pm Cinematic recap of the game. Worth the watch.

Re: at Toledo (11/15)
The team is clearly better than 2016 and has improved every season but the Covid year. They are still wildly inconsistent. Coming off big wins they typically lose the next week so hopefully they can follow it up with a win at OU. Play calling is still inconsistent as well. You don’t know what the offensive identity is from one week to the next. Are we a team that slings it all over, do we go for it on every 4th down… who knows.
Best case scenario they win out with a little help, and win MACC and a bowl game. In this case some type of extension or raise is warranted IMO. We have what one bowl win since 2004 so I would consider that impressive.
Worst case they get drubbed at OU and either get left out of a bowl or get drubbed again in a bowl game. Season can still get end sourly. I say wait and see.

Bowling Green will be playing in a bowl game. It's a sure thing, absent something crazy like a COVID resurgence befalling the team the day before kickoff, or something.
Re: at Toledo (11/15)
This exactly. Incentive based extension if the season ends well. Pull out two mor Kent State performances and no extension right now.Beaker wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 8:45 am I don't think you make any decisions until the season is complete. We presumably have 2 more games to play. I think the feeling would be much different if those are 2 wins vs if they are 2 blowout losses where the team repeats the Kent State game.
Assuming we don't implode and look like a jr. high school team these next couple of games, the solution in a perfect and imaginary world would be that you sign him to 2024 at the end of this season, but with trigger language in it that says this 2024 contract becomes null and void if specific performance objectives (wins) are not met in the 2023 season. Make that 2024 contract low on base salary but potentially as big as we could possibly afford if bonuses are paid out for performance objectives being met - winning record pays bonus of (a), winning the east pays bonus of (b), winning the conference pays bonus of (c) and so on. I know these types of incentives are already in coaches contracts, but it would be nice from the school's perspective to further shift the balance of the bulk of money away from guaranteed salary and toward an incentive basis. If a contract like that were possible you minimize whatever recruiting impact leaving a guy hanging in his last contract year could potentially have and you get the school off the hook for any future payouts if next season is a crash and burn. Like I said, in a perfect and imaginary world. I've never heard of any contract like that ever being done but if it were to be possible, it would have to be with a coach who has no leverage at all, who's in a position of taking the deal or being told to pack his bags and he doesn't have any other better options.
Re: at Toledo (11/15)
As someone else mentioned on here, they aren't going to let him go into the last year of his contract without termination or extension. Just doesn't happen anymore, even though I actually think it would be best case scenario for him to have a "prove-it" year. I think he's earned a one year extension, which really shows him the writing is on the wall that he needs to keep up the performance to stick around. If he can build and improve again next season (which to me would mean 8+ wins and MAC championship appearance), then we could look into a longer extension.

8+ wins might earn him a higher paying gig....

This is how I see it. If Loeffler gets a 1 year ext, then he has two seasons to bring it all together. Gives it more urgency as well.BillyLP wrote: ↑Fri Nov 18, 2022 11:53 am As someone else mentioned on here, they aren't going to let him go into the last year of his contract without termination or extension. Candle loses the MACC and you have to think it might be time to move on in Rocket land. Toledo has regressed as the season has gone on.

UT should be holding him to the same standard we should be holding Huger to..they're paying him too much money to barely make his way to MAC title games.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 11:13 am Candle loses the MACC and you have to think it might be time to move on in Rocket land. Re: at Toledo (11/15)
I agree this is not the conference it was when we had Harris, Jacobs, and couple more pretty good QBs to follow at BG but parity in conference every given week is not what proves it. OOC play is what proves the conference has a lot of work to do.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.
