What will attendance be like for BG v. Wisky?
Not sure what attendance will be like ...
but this better be a home crowd for us. Shame on us if we let this be a home game for Wisconsin. I can't wait to get there. It will be my first trip to Cleveland Browns Stadium. Shoot, I may just give my freebies to someone (I ordered three club seats for Michelle, myself, and my mom) as long as they are going to cheer for the Falcons! I may get accused of smoking something, but I think we can win this game. Hey, we're playing Wisconsin in football here, not hockey! I type this as Wisconsin is leading Maine 3-1 at the end of the second period in the Frozen Four.

I posted this on the MAC board. I was responding to a Temple fan sho said we could sell this out. I thought I would share it here:
I don't know about sell out, but there are items of interest which people are forgetting (even fellow falcon fans)
1: It's Labor Day weekend in Cleveland. There is no more a draw in downtown Cleveland all year than Labor Day. Air Show. Taste of Cleveland. Special exhbits at the Rock-N-Roll HOF and Great Lakes Science Center. Hundreds of Thousands of people flock to downtown during the weekend.
I can see and believe that people would want to take in the game and then head to any of the actractions listed above. Could they be a deterrant as well? Naw. But 50K is a very real possibility.
2: Back in the day, Cleveland used to sell out of old Muni stadium for HIGH SCHOOL GAMES. Granted that was several decades ago, but the love of everything football is still there. The MAC office should probably use that fact in advertising. "Be there when a new tradition is born: College football in Cleveland."
Some detriments to attendance:
*TOAM(awse)U has a home game with NIU that day.
*ALL the people downtown at the same time. Parking will be a bear.
*Not enough/wrong type of advertising and interest mining.

While I can't say one way or the other on that issue, I do know that me and my family will be there. I can't really imagine why most BG students in the Cleveland area wouldn't be there.
I'm not writing it off at all, just considering percentages. Look at the total number of students at a typical BG home game ~ hammb has a better handle on this, but he's said we've done well on the student side of things. Now consider how many of those student fans are from the Cleveland area. Whatever it is, it's less than 100% of the overall student attendance. Now take that smaller percentage and figure that a percentage - again, less than 100% - will attend the game for whatever reason. Just by simple attrition, it's a smaller number than a typical home game.
I remember hearing that we averaged about 7000 students a game for the Urban and early Brandon years. I really don't think it was that high last year, but that's just me.1987alum wrote: I'm not writing it off at all, just considering percentages. Even still I think that if we assume we average 7000 students at a home game that it's fair to say 5000 would be a VERY optimistic number for this game.
I really think the attendance for this game will rely VERY heavily on the Browns/Cleveland Area football fans that just want to see a college game at CBS. I just don't see a lot of the BG community making the trek over there, other than us die hards that are at every game regardless. I'm also not convinced that a lot of the BG alums in the Cleveland area that don't go to our other games to really come out in droves either.
Sadly I think attendance for this game will depend on OSU conflicts even moreso than a typical home game. There are a lot of die hard football fans in Cleveland. A lot of them would enjoy coming to the BG game, for sure. However, I also think a lot of them would prefer to watch an OSU game on TV.

My fifth year senior friends that only went to a BG football game once in their five years (College Gameday) said that they are not going to miss the game at CBS. They think it will be a great experience. Now if my lazy ass friends that weren't willing to walk 5 min. to the Doyt but are willing to drive two hours to watch the game in Cleveland are going I expect some actual die hard fans and on the fence fans to go to. I can see 30-35k showing up.

Yeah, I know we have that Falcon Club tents that allow beer and stuff. Do any other schools allow beer in the actual stadium? I wouldn't be opposed to allowing beer in the Doyt if it meant more people would actually show up in the Doyt. I would also think that something in the order of wrist bands having a 2 beer limit would help quell the chance of people going over board and going ridiculously nuts and out of control.Schadenfreude wrote:It's already everywhere but in the stadium.falconboy wrote:Gosh, is it really all about the beer??? We'll have 50K+ if we have alcohol there but we'll barely make 20,000 if we don't? Is this really how it is , that we have such abysmal attendance, no booze to get "happy" with? Are other football schools allowing beer at games? If it really isnt' a NCAA rule but a school one then we might as well start allowing beer to a certain extent maybe, nothing else has worked.
I suppose someone, somewhere figures we need a little decorum.

I hope we can get 40k there. I sometimes wish these BG/OSU fans who think they must watch OSU no tv all the time would learn about Tivo or the vcr and tape the friggin OSU game for watching later and come out and watch your alma mater take on the B10.Tricky_Falcon wrote:My fifth year senior friends that only went to a BG football game once in their five years (College Gameday) said that they are not going to miss the game at CBS. Well, Kent sells beer, and we all know how fast people are clammoring to stumble into Dix...falconboy wrote:Yeah, I know we have that Falcon Club tents that allow beer and stuff. That day it's Ohio St. vs. NIU, not Penn St or Iowa or someone like that. I'm pretty sure the buckeyes will romp the huskies and I think most fans think that too so they should come to see a competitve, exciting, new experience at Browns Stadium and cheer on BG.
