Now why in the world would I ever want to rip on Dover hs football...when I can just rip on Dover.
Certainly 5000 people from Dover could travel to away games. What else is there to do in Dover on a Friday night???? And besides the Zoar Tavern can only hold so many.
But then again, Wadsworth outdraws a lot of host schools for the same reason. And since Suburban league schools aren't as far away as those in the Sandy Valley...every Grizzly fan can still be home and in bed by 10:30 which is a city ordinance.

And speaking of NY High School Hockey...yes, that was my McQuaid Knights winning this years State Championship. Biwana, Biwana!!!!!

Falcon Club will be, but from what I have heard, not a "students only" bus. Heck, getting students to by tickets is a challenge, so getting 45 people on a bus will be an even bigger challenge, especially since students have to pay full freight on the game tickets.
Full price? Are those the $10 or the $7 tickets?

Also isn't this on Labor Day weekend? Won't most students either be home or left with little to do? I don't know if things have changed very much, but when I was there a disproportionate amount of students were from Cleveland. If they go home that weekend, perhaps a bunch of them will turn up.
Yeah that's what I was hoping. Alot of kids from the Cleveland area will be home and will probably go to the game. Maybe they will bring the parents and family along as well and make it a labor day weekend family outing. I think more kids will go to the game if they are home near Cleveland then if the game was on a random saturday in October and had to make the 2 hour drive from BG to C Town.

The problem isn't the Cleveland kids (unless they don't care to go), but the kids from Toledo, Columbus, Cinci. For them a trip to Cleveland, followed by a trip home is out of the way.

As for the $10 or $7 tickets, when do they get tickets to this game at that price? I have always heard that they are paying full freight, just as if the game was in Madison or in Columbus. I know they aren't getting a discount to the OSU game. I realize that BG controls this game, but I still had heard that they were paying full price. If I am wrong on that note, then I stand corrected. At the same time, paying 10 bucks or 7 bucks is still 10 and 7 more than students are used to paying to go to games now. Plus they won't be able to use there ID's to charge concessions like they can at the Doyt.

sorry to dissapoint you, but McQuaid didn't win the state hockey title. They weren't even in the state playoffs. They won their division but didnt qualify for the playoffs. However, my almamater won the states for the 5th time in 6 years Williamsville North.

And also, if people take high school football that seriously that means they've never moved on with they're life since high school. And also, Ohio football would get crushed by Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, California and Virginia football. Just a different type of athlete in those states. I really think the coaches lie to their players about how fast they are in ohio too because guys come out the intramural fields every year braggin how they run a 4.4, 4.5, 4.6 and that they were electronically timed at their high school and cats get burnt. Sorry but it just really got under my skin when people left to go to their high school game instead of a college game.

Oh, and Wadsworth is the mecca of Friday night entertainment? LOL!

Dover is a GREAT place to live, has an excellent school system and the HS teams are ranked in the state polls on a regular basis. They'll play anyone, anywhere, anytime. For a town of just over 12,000, half are at legendary Crater Stadium on Friday night home games. You ought to take a drive down sometime and check out Crater Stadium. It is one of the finest HS stadiums in the state.

BTW, the Zoar Tavern jsut recently opened again. And that is Tusky Valley territory.

This September there is a high school football event taking place in Ohio that pits that best teams in OH against some of the great teams all across the country. Teams from Texas, Cali, Arkansas, NJ, PA, South Carolina, and Florida are playing teams in Ohio like St. Ed's, Elder, Colerain, Massillon, Moeller, and St. X. Obviously Ohio High School Football must be pretty good if we can go up against these teams who are all prolific programs. Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania, Cal, and FLA are the best HS football states in the nation.

ROFLMAO!!! Are you for real?? Check out how many kids from Ohio end up playing college ball. Virginina??? North Carolina???? LOL!!! You're joking, right?
Texas, Florida & Ohio produce the most college football recruits most years. What do you base this "Getting crushed" on anyway? I'll put a Canton McKinley, Massillon, Warren Harding, Cincinnati Princeton and others up against any team from any state.
And why did you choose to omit Pennsylvania? Damn good football in that state as well.

Never moved on with "their" life? What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Just because someone wants to support their HS after leaving means they have no life? That's gotta be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Clue for ya...most HS games are played on Friday nights in Ohio. And most college games are played on Saturdays. You can do both cuz this state is about as football crazy as you can get.

I've heard some doozies before but your's is one of the best. Congrats. Stick with hockey and leave the football to the folks that know.

You must have missed the NFL draft, where two of the top 8 picks and three of the top 18 were Ohio guys. What would they ever do against mighty North Carolina?

Seriously (and I know that many people don't want to read about OSU on this board, but I need to use them for the argument), are Troy Smith and Ted Ginn good enough athletes for you? Brady Quinn seems OK, don't ya think? Tyrell Sutton from NorthWestern seemed pretty good last year. I could go on and on.

Also, an Ohio team (Cincinnati Colerain) did beat a Texas team (Tyler Lee) in last years Ohio vs. USA challenge (this was the only game that was played).

That is going to be incredible. Of course, the Ohio teams have the advantage of playing at in their home state, but it is a risk trying to go ten deep against top teams from other states. All of the match-ups are great, but Elder vs. De La Salle is especially intriguing.

Ok, first things first. You must have had it rough in high school, did you not have any friends? There is nothing wrong with supporting your alma mater or your local high school. High School football in Ohio is great, unlike NY. I've seen the NY/NJ All-Star game on TV, and there is a lot to be desired, especially if they are the best of the best.

Also, Ohio could match up with any state you mentioned and destroy some of the others. Don't talk unless you know what you're talking about.

And about the people saying they ran a 4.4 or a 4.5 40...you must be pretty nieve because I know a lot of people that lie. Especially when the lie is about the past. I've had someone tell me that when he played soccer in junior high that the kids on the other team had knives and when his team scored they stabbed them. Now honestly, who believes that stuff? Look with your own eyes, is that person fast? If not, you know they lie. And I'm sure this happens everywhere, lieing isn't designated for those that played high school football in Ohio.

Also, I agree with the point that you can do both the high school game and the college game. I love it when the stadium is full, both on Friday nights and on Saturdays. I try to get to all of the games, but sometimes I can't. As a coach, my committment is with my team, then I go to other games as I can. Have you ever been to a high school playoff game in Ohio? People come from all over, with no connection to either team, to watch these games. The games are huge hits, the stadiums are full. I've heard that California can barely get people to the state finals games...well guess what, Ohio puts a ton of people in two of the best high school stadiums in the nation. I've coached in Florida as well, a big high school, tons of athletes. But, they didn't seem to know the game as well as some of the smaller school kids that I coached. The community didn't come out and support the team either. I'm sure every school is different, but overall, high school football in Ohio is top notch.

On ticket master there is an option for $10 and $7 tickets. I'm guessing if you buy $7 seats you'll be able to move down into the better sections. Either way, I hope it's a good showing by Bowling Green and their fans. It'd be good fun to have an equal amount of BG and Wisconsin fans out in the parking lot tailgating. Over the course of the next couple of months I'm going to work on my buddies and hope to take ten or so.

As far as the HS discussion goes. The argument ends here, Columbus St. Francis DeSales. They're clearly the top athletic program in the state.

I think that the $7 tickets are for groups only (20+). I thought that the only $10 tickets were for students, but I'm not sure.

OK Money Maker...I realize my mistake....I typed "this" instead of "last" as in last years state champions. Geez!!!

The only redeeming thing i could find in all of your content was the fact that at least on your way to THIS years state championship is that you beat AQUINAS.

And yes on the weekend that BGSU plays Ohio State I will not be going to the college game. I will be going home to Rochester for my 25th high school reunion....and you know what...if McQ is playing football...i might even go to the game.

Freak, there is no way I am going to go to Dover just to take in the phenomenon of Dover hs football. But I do agree that the town has just as much cache as Wadsw.

whoa whoa whoa, i didn't think how many feathers i would ruffle with that. but i feel like i have a very valid opinion because i've lived in 9 states. sorry if it came off ignorant everyone. but when i saw the movie "Go TIgers" about massillon it scared me that that's all that town has. And yes i have been to a ohio hs football game, i went to the sandusky/freemont game this year and it was ok. I just don't think i cud ever take a high school sport that serious, they're just kids. it makes sad to think that this is the greatest thing that will ever happen in their life to some of them. Life gets so much better after high school.

The biggest flaw in your argument is right here. I went to H.S. in California and there is no state tournament in football, only sectionals. I think they are trying to add some sort of state championship system, but up until now they have not had one...
