So do I, J4H. I think Lovett will build a hell of a defense. His track record speaks for itself and I'm still surprised we were able to land a guy of his stature. Now that he's had some time to see what is available, we'll get to see what he can really do. I think our defense will be much better this year and will continue to inprove. I think you're right about the D getting caught up in the Offensive fireworks. Although they won't say it, they probably felt "We don't have to play quite as hard cuz the O will light up the scoreboard". Well, I think we all know we need a stout D to win the title as well as solid ST and a good O.

Our ST will be much improved in '06 as well...I have faith in Coach Durkin to get those problems corrected.

Let's get this thing going!!!

I realize they're just kids, but if they were out there not giving their all just because they thought the offense could score buttloads of points, I think that reflects poorly on their coaches. Hopefully as our coaches mature into their positions they'll be able to keep these kids motivated to play in all facets of the game.

I'm really hoping this year is a turnaround from last year, because there were some very scary signals from last year's team, and I'm not talking about just the defense. We were a VERY poor fundamental football team last year in every single aspect of the game. Blocking, tackling, and discipline. If you excel in those areas you will win, we were awful in those areas last year. I've met DJ a couple times, and I have to believe he's got the kinda attitude it would take to at least infuse some discipline into the STs units. I hope they're working hard on those other fundamentals this summer as well. I don't care how athletic you are if you don't know how to tackle you won't have a good defense.

These things are not always decisions that are consciously made.

How big of an epic proportion? Because if it's only a 260 lb epic proportion its gonna get shoved all over the map by a 285 pound NEPL epic proportion.

Always great to hear from someone who actually knows, as we just seem to speculate at things. Congrats on the move, good luck and have a great season.

Can you honestly tell me that with our recent recruits on both the defensive and offensive side of the ball, if you had a player in the 6-3 275-290 range and you could put him on the offensive side or defensive side of the ball...you would pick the o-line?

We have studs all over the offensive side of the line. D seems to have a few playmakers but need a space-eater so we don't get mauled.
Exactly. What we need is size and strenght ,not a tub of lard as some here say. As to Flipper's comment about the depth, I dont' think it woulda mattered much if we had 20 guys that weighed 260lbs to rotate in and out , we woulda still got mauled.

Thats great man. I believe now at 290 you now would be effective on the o-line but I'm still rather mystified at the move cuz we have so many freakin' o-linemen as it is. Coach B made sure we stocked up well there, so the fact that Coach B only recruited 1 O-lineman this year also seemed to make that statement. But in all I hope you do great, no matter where your put.

I don't think that size is the complete #1 aspect of a great DT/NG , but it is essential. Football is a physical game and you kneed guys that can bring serious physicallity to that position. I don't think 400lb slow as mollases guys ae the anwser either, but amazing quickness and speed is not really necessary at DT or NG as their job is not to chase down rb's or qb's mostly ,its the lbs as safties job for that but for that to happen well, you need a set of big & strong interior lineman that can get the penetration you want. If your DT/NG is getting stuffed at the LOS and getting pushed back , your LB's are in all likelyhood going to be roughed up by TE's and fullbacks, which in our case is bad cuz we've had small size there and they also get dominated at the point of attack. Sorry to ramble on here. But everyone here has made some valid points.

I just hope that whatever DC Lovett employs helps us keep Wisky from running up 200-300 yards of rushing offense on us.
