Western Kentucky has been in the Sun Belt for years -- except for football, which is in the Gateway. When WKU talked about going I-A, there was a conversation with the MAC, but the MAC never took any further action. So the path of least resistance was to take football to the Sun Belt, home of all other WKU teams as well as Middle Tennessee, a healthy rival.BGDrew wrote:Western Kentucky will join the Sun Belt in 2009.
I get the impression WKU would have been interested in the MAC, although the gap between our league and the Belt seems to be narrowing.
As far as the meaning of "round-robin." I think it speaks for itself.
That said, it could be that the MAC is trying to get an exemption.

If we could join Conference USA right now, just us, would we?PGY Tiercel wrote:I agree. Why would anyone leave one 13 team conference mess, to go create another 13 team conference mess. Unless there is a multiple team switch in the works, I don't see anyone leaving to go to CUSA yet.
I say hell no.
Flying our softball team to Houston and El Paso and Hattiesburg, Miss. and God-knows-where North Carolina just isn't my idea of a good idea.
I think there may be some expectations of some C-USA teams moving to the Big East, at least for football, at some time in the future.PGY Tiercel wrote:I agree. I can't disagree with that sentiment. But what if it was a package, say Toledo, BG, and Miami? Would you want to stay in the MAC when our two biggest rivals just jumped ship?Schadenfreude wrote:If we could join Conference USA right now, just us, would we?

I didn't mean it woud make sense for the school. I was simply looking at the schools which have taken action to positioned themselves for such a move.Schadenfreude wrote:You believe him?Rightupinthere wrote:Toledo or Akron would be my guess.Schadenfreude wrote:One team?redskins4ever wrote:Someone is leaving for CUSA...
It seems utterly implausible.
Conference USA?
One school?
Why?
Eastern Michigan to the Gateway -- that I could believe.
If BG moves to CUSA, I'm burning every ounce of orange and brown items I own.

No, I wouldn't. That would be a different situation.Warthog wrote:I can't disagree with that sentiment. But what if it was a package, say Toledo, BG, and Miami? Would you want to stay in the MAC when our two biggest rivals just jumped ship?
I would like to think those three schools and Ohio could try to find a way to stick together. I also value a couple of other schools in our conference.
