It's only the greatest upset in college football history, I think we can let this one go.

Even as embarrassing as this is for UM , I don't agree that the season is over for Michigan. They could still pull together and win 10,11 more games win the Big Ten title and go to a BCS bowl and make a ton of money again. To be honest before this game I didn't believe that Michigan had a NC caliber D anyway and this game confirmed it.
No...it is over! Michigan had National Championship aspirations. Those are gone now. I don't care how many games they win the rest of the way, or what bowl game they play in...their season ended today at 3:45 p.m. EST. Make no mistake about that!

That locker room is going to be a mess the rest of the way. I wouldn't be surprised if they lose a two or three few more before its over.
Hyperbole, much? The season isn't over. They can still win a crappy B11 and go to the Rose Bowl. You go try and tell Henne, Hart, and Jake Long that their season is over.

They came back to school 1 more year for this?? haha welcome back losers

Holy cow. That video -- every Michigan fan should see that. Your team lost to -- that.

Boy, that's bad. Too bad for Appy State fans. I hear Boone, N.C. is a cool little town.

Two things:

One: As a Michigan fan (second to BG), even I'm happy to have seen App. St. win. I'll nearly always root for the underdog, even sometimes if it's against a team I like.

Two: Yes, I know App. St. is a 1AA/FCS team, but they're also the two-time defending champions. People are talking about this like Michigan just lost to SJJ out there. That's hardly the case. They're still Div. 1, it's still college football, and they're a damn good team. I always hate when people talk about a game like that because it takes so much away from the underdog team. They played their asses off, made the plays that needed to be made, and BEAT a top-10 team. Why detract from that?

Zom,

I thought that as well. At least Temple was 1-A last year and BG was nowhere near a Top 50 team...let alone Top 5.

And how about the Notre Dame Wimpy Irish? Lost 33-3 at home to a decent Ga Tech team?

This is what I like...OSU is totally humiliated by the Gators in Jan. UM is victim to the greatest upset in college football history and ND is getting its azz handed to it on a semi regular basis. I think it's great the "High and mighty" get a dose of reality.

CONGRATS TO APPALACHIAN STATE!!! On the way home from Huron today, we were passed by an SUV with 2 Appy State flags and I started honking the horn given them the thumbs up! They all just pumped their fists and honked back.

I do hope to hear the radio call on the last blocked FG...it will never get old. Those guys were going crazy! I am surprised Carr wasn't fired on the spot.

Can't remember if I mentioned this on here or not... but the play-by-play announcers have only called 2 games in their careers together.

1st ever game- Boise State-Oklahoma

2nd ever game- App St- Michigan

Maybe we should lobby for them against Sparty?
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

As one Columbus area talking head said after playing the ASU audio feed, "they could go to dead air and play that for three hours." When the score went final, everyplace my family went, we heard people giggle, laugh, and ponder how they were going to make fun of Michigan for the entire rest of the year.

Mitch Albom's Freep article just nails so much about the game. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti ... 20598/1082

This was one of the all-time-great upsets in all of sports, not just football. They will talk about this game, nationally, 60 years from now, when the players are old and pulling their pension or tax differed annuity of choice.

And from how people in Ohio States part of the world are reveling in the game, half of those ASU kids could get jobs in Columbus just for having been on the the team that did that to Michigan. Indeed, the OSU fans seem to be at least as happy as the ASU fans! ASU just gave Buckeye fans about 30 years worth of jokes, and fully one season of utter joy as they joke about hoping to beat UM.

Aside from all else, from the clips I've seen, ASU really does run an amazing spread offense. They'd scare anybody I think, and that QB is a E'ffing sophomore!

No doubt. That ASU QB was BiG time. Bottom line...ASU wanted the game and UM didn't until it was too late. The best example of why the games are played. ANYTHING can happen in college footbal...it helps make it thee greatest game in the world.

So...what happens if UM runs the table, beats Ohio State, and wins the Big √121?

I think the OSU fans would still crow. The exact words from their mouths would be "at least we didn't lose to ASU." Or jokes about how they finally beat OSU, but not before they blew the entire season on day one.

And if UM were to win the B10/11, by beating WI and OSU, people would say the conference sucked this year.

There just isn't any spin they'll be able to put on this, that erases what has happened. As Albom's article notes. Their season is over, they blew it already.

taking a step back from this game, i don't think it's inconceivable to think that ASU is a top 60 team regardless of division, if not top 50. they are a two-time 1-AA champion and have some good talent on that team.

the 1-AA stigma will kill any michigan title hopes this season and in no way takes away from the upset, but app. state had the perfect mix of players/talent to dethrone the wolverines on that given saturday.

i guess my point is the 1-AA label adds to the lore of the "greatest upset ever in sports," but discounts the players on app. state. that team could have probably played with all but a handful of teams in 1-A (USC, LSU and only a couple others) and ended up on top against a significant number of the other teams in 1-A.

either way, it was a great win and a great upset. even if i don't give a damn about ohio state, i still have the inborn hate of michigan inside of me.
