Well, Rob emailed back. He was actually pretty cordial which is more than I, I'm afraid, was with him. I guess my love for BG football and BGSU is so much I take offense at the slightest things at times. I gotta learn to control that.

Anyway, he basically replied it was nothing personal against BG or any MAC school, it is just business. He didn't scream and rant so that was cool. I did reply back that in football, ALL NCAA FBS (1-A) teams should have a legit shot at the title, no matter how great the odds. If they do that in every other sport, why should football be any different?

He said both his parents are BG grads and that his article wasn't directed at BG or any MAC school. It was more directed to a school like South Florida.

I don't buy that. What's "a school like South Florida"? How is it really any different from a MAC school?

They are currently in the top 10 in the country while none of the MAC schools are even "Others receiving votes." Thus, the MAC schools are all currently where we "should be" which is out of the rankings and away from the limelight letting the big dogs have their fun.

If BG were ranked #7 his article would've been in reference to BG and he would respond to USF fans that he wasn't really talking about them, but a school, "like BG."

This is exactly the type of stuff I expect from the Dispatch, so I don't really let it get to me. They are there to stroke the egos of OSU fans. Writing an article about how it's wrong to see non traditional powers near the top serves that purpose. I think they should get used to seeing USF up there though. They're one of the largest schools in the country and they appear to be fully committed to football. If they want to compete at the highest level they will be able to do it.

Hammb,

I need to remember where the Dispatch is located and who their audience is. Duh.

South Florida has a very bright future...they play in a BiG time stadium and have a BiG number of students. There is room for a new player in Florida with Miami and FSU on the downslide. There is so much freakin talent in that state it ain't funny.

87,
That's just what the guy wrote back and its his opinion. I don't like it but they are selling papers in Cbus...

The kind of response that we are giving is exactly what they want. To them it just boosts their ego becuse they do not see things the way we do. They view our dislike of osu as jealousy. Us getting all upset over some article written by some jackass in columbus boosts their ego and reaffirms their place as being "the best.........." in their eyes that is  The best thing we can do is ignore them. Go Falcons! How bout that Tribe!

And people wonder why newspaper circulation continues to swirl the bowl.

He may have specifically mentioned USF, but he was implying that all schools not named Ohio State, Oklahoma, Southern California, Florida etc. have no right to be playing for anything but conference championships.

He basically puts down every school that is not a traditional power taking shots at Kentucky and Hawaii.
College football will stick to the script, thank you very much, which says football factories should ingest smaller schools before belching them out like so much vapor from the campus power-station smokestacks.
Kentucky, for instance, is No. 8. No offense, Wildcats, but shouldn't you be practicing foul shots, not pass plays? Hawaii is No. 16 and faces a remaining schedule that realistically could result in an undefeated regular season and potential BCS bid.
Underdogs are nice pets that are cute to cuddle, but they need to know their place -- at the foot of the bed and bottom of the polls.
I don't take too much offense to it though I do not agree.
