I want serious predictions for the opener on Sept.4th...
I have been buying beers for visitors in the parking lot at O'Connell's Irish Pub since I was a student in the early 70s and I will be at this game doing the same. Never realized how cool it was until someone did it for me at another school's local pub after a game.
I don't make many games these days, but I did attend that ND game in 1999, we just could not hold the lead. I sat in section with lots of ND donors on about 45 yd line, 30 or so rows up and lots of OU fans all around. Irish fans near me said that they felt like that they were at a road game with all the Sooner fans in attendance.
I will be rooting for the Falcons remainder of year (may even attend the NIU game near me in Chicagoland), but this game is OU all the way.
OU 49, BG 28

Besides, The Falcon football player I most resemble is Brian Leaver, and I can't kick. The only time you see me on that field is playing the sousaphone

And before anyone has anything to say to our friend here about being in [sneer]band[/sneer], it takes a special kind of person to high step and spin a 270 at 110bpm with a 50lb weight on their shoulder.Falcon30 wrote:The only time you see me on that field is playing the sousaphone![]()

Those that can are affectionately known as maggots!Rightupinthere wrote:it takes a special kind of person to high step and spin a 270 at 110bpm with a 50lb weight on their shoulder.
Those that can't, they play flute, clarinet, sax, cornet, trumpet, flugle horn, trombone, euphonium, or drums.
You can never have too many maggots!

How Original
That's pretty original SEF...We had that same cheer in high school BAND:
"Grove City born and Grove City bred and when we die we'll be Grove City dead.
Rah Rah Grove City City, Rah Rah Grove City City, Rah Rah Grove City High School..."

The simple answer is that the Gaylord Family donated a huge chunk of money and got their name rudely plastered on our beloved Owen Memorial Stadium, so it's 'technically' Gaylord Family - Owen Memorial Stadium due to the vast remodelling/additions..but we still like to call it Owen Field for shortFalconian wrote:Question for Sooner fans. I thought your stadium was Owen Field. Is this a new stadium you play at now, or a name change?
You've been over on our board, and so far we're predicting to beat Oregon by even more.Falcon30 wrote:OK - would you be so confident if it was Purdue or Minnesota coming into Norman?
Why is it that it is OK for you to think we are going to lose by 42, but it is not OK for us to even predict a 14 point loss? You wanted serious predictions, you got em.

Scott D. I hope you pound the highlighters into oblivion! And I agree that the PAC 10 is a terrible conference. Big 1, little 9. I will be pulling for the Sooners in that game, let me tell you.
The Ducks's fans haven't been very respectful of any of the sites I've been on (specifically theinsiders). Those fans, I'm afraid, are going to be chowing down on some crow.
SoonersEnFuego:
Band Geek? What grade are you in?
Let me point out some facts for you, mmmkay?
1. Band was and is co-ed.
2. We didn't pat eachother on the bum (as you see in football). If any patting, hugging, or pile-ons did occur then the reasoning may be found in fact #1.
3. We didn't shower together. If there was any group (or at least more than an individual) showering, then that reasoning may be found in fact #1.
4. Be careful what you say because the webmaster (and a guy who knows more about basketball than other person I know) was in band - so was his beautiful wife (for answers on how they met please refer to fact #1.....and #2........and hell #3 as well).
Gotta get back to work. I'm a$$ deep in Alligators and it's all because of Charley.

Most sooner fans do live through their team though. It's our team.
It's in the fight song:
"I’m a Sooner-born and Sooner-bred
and when I die, I’ll be Sooner-dead"
That's why we are some of the greatest fans in the nation.

Maybe we can turn this into a "banned geek" thread, and you will be gone!
Seriously - ask any band vet - band is about sex, music, sex, marching, drinking, sex and finally intercourse. I overheard one band member say "all I learned about sex, I learned in band."
Look back a few posts and see if you can answer those questions.
This guy is definitely the exception when it comes to Oklahoma fans, though. Most of them have been awesome.
