Yes. For the workers they represent.BGWriter wrote:Unions are all about getting as much $$$$$$ as they can.
I was in a union for years. I'm proud of it. We had better working conditions as a direct result of the contract we had collectively bargained. The union made us strong.
Perhaps Falcon Commander is right. Perhaps this thread should be moved into a different forum. It's pretty far from football.

In this case one can be pro-union and anti-BGSU Faculty Association as their tactics directly undermined a significant portion of their own membership.Schadenfreude wrote:Yes. For the workers they represent.BGWriter wrote:Unions are all about getting as much $$$$$$ as they can.

I am a union baby and my dad is a 37-year UAW guy. Unions put a roof over my head, clothed me and put me through BGSU...but I also saw all the abuses first hand.mscarn wrote:In this case one can be pro-union and anti-BGSU Faculty Association as their tactics directly undermined a significant portion of their own membership.Schadenfreude wrote:Yes. Unions had a purpose originally, but they abused the power and got completely out of hand. A corection was needed and thank God Ronald Regan provided the correction.

Lets just stop the political talk now. It's not going to go anywhere good. (Especially when we are thanking Ronald Reagan for anything he did to help our economy.)

You want to stop the political talk -- then slam Reagan in the next sentence? How is that stopping the political talk, exactly?Globetrotter wrote:Lets just stop the political talk now. I'm going to say one more thing about unions: it mostly comes down to one's experience with them. I was both a union member and a supervisor that had to deal with union reps when I got promoted. In both capacities I saw horrible abuses that worked to the benefit of nobody but lazy and/or incompetent workers that should have been fired years ago...and the union that got to keep getting the dues from those folks.
I have no doubt that there are people who had positive experiences working with/for unions; I just wasn't one of them.
But if a union sacrifices the well-being of some members to get others higher pay...well, that sounds pretty bad to me.
