Keeping the same defensive scheme is a huge plus and it sounds like we're going to do just that. The new coaches can learn the nuances from those who are remaining.

On the offensive side, the results of the offensive staff in terms of skill development and getting productivity out of an offense are off the charts which helps allievate any concerns about their ages/backgrounds at this level. What I worry about is recruiting. Can they go into Ohio, Florida and Michigan and win the battles for *** guys like the previous staff did? There's not much of a recruiting track record there to speak of. Hopefully they're going to be hungry and relentless on the trail to make a name for themselves and capitalize on the opportunity they've been given.

There can be 9 full-time assistants. Taking the whole EIU offensive staff (5) and McCloud, Freeman and Kaufman (3) on defense leaves us one over counting McDaniel and Monroe. Freeman has the most D-I experience at major programs but is also 67 years old and could decide to retire. Kaufman coached LB's at EIU which is where there's an opening. We also have 4 GA's who are allowed to stay 3 years at a program and all of our current ones I believe are still eligible to stay: Marcus Edwards, Alex Stadler, Jahmal Brown and Aaron Mershman. They are all fine coaches and retaining them would be a great bridge between the former and current staff.

I just recently saw that Jahmal Brown is a GA. Great guy. He was an outstanding player and leader as a Falcon and may well find himself in the coming years as an up and coming coach.

One of the best tacklers we've had at BG in the last 15 years. JB just didn't miss...

One of the positive things about changing coaches this year is that there aren't a lot of scholarships available, are there? That means the staff will basically have two years to work on putting together its first major recruiting class, which will give them time to develop relationships in Ohio, Up North, Florida and anywhere else they decide to focus their recruiting efforts.

Coaches Lynch, Lewis, Sowder and Mattox have all converted their Twitter pages to BG colors and/or are tweeting about BG football. Wonder when we'll hear the official announcement and delineation of responsibilities.

At Wake Forest, rumors are that Clawson is keeping their current linebackers coach and has offered the offensive line job to the West Virginia OL coach.

Clawson has finalized his staff by hiring the Ball State offensive line coach.

Coaching is a cold, cold business. Hopefully Coach Durkin (our former line coach and Clawson's line coach at Richmond for several years) lands on his feet as well as the other ex-BG coaches.
