Hope for Matt Johnson 6th Year

Re: Hope for Matt Johnson 6th Year
Clawson is a first class coach, but I'm not sure anyone can win at Wake. Tiny stadium, about 300 black students on campus (mostly athletes), competing against Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, Miami, Va Tech....No history of winning. Tough gig.
Re: Hope for Matt Johnson 6th Year
I think we're gonna have a much better idea after the bowl about what Johnson's future holds. If he can't get 2014 back or doesn't come back it'll be a real shame because he essentially lost the entire year after not being able to finish the opener. We've all seen examples of guys who have gotten a year back, including Bryan Thomas who was awarded one last year but blew his chance at it in the offseason. I would LOVE to see him back at BG next year. I just hope he at least applies for the year back (if he hasn't done so yet) and gets it to leave the option on the table for him no matter what he decides to do.
GO BG!!!
Re: Hope for Matt Johnson 6th Year
After some of his recent tweets and reading quotes in recent articles it almost looks for certain the bowl will be the last time we see MJ in a BG uniform. Let's hope his final time is in winning style. Remember, BG has not won a bowl game with Matt Johnson at QB.
GO BG!!!
Re: Hope for Matt Johnson 6th Year
UT QB Phillip Ely was denied a 6th year today.

He's got at least 1 probably 2 more years at Wake until they'd consider firing him. He isn't a very good coach, just beat the teams in the east and had a huge upset in the MAC Title Game. He did a nice job recruiting, but he had a top tier budget in the conference (please don't come back with some nonsense USA today survey saying we don't have a big football budget, it just isn't true) and a brand new Sebo Center to recruit off of. It doesn't matter if he's at Wake, Virginia or Florida State.....the guy just isn't and wasn't that good and won't be successful in the Power 5.
As far as Matt Johnson goes, I can't imagine he'd try to go to the NFL.....I haven't seen him mentioned at all in any type of draft previews. I could definitely see him transferring and trying to go to a Power 5 school where he can play. I'd be surprised if he just stops playing with that extra year available.
I easily see him getting a shot.

Saw a video by the blade where MJ said he's entering his name in the draft after this year. I think it on this link below, but the video won't load on my iPhone, so if it's the wrong page, I apologize

If Kellen Moore gets a shot in the NFL...MJ should get a shot. Matt probably has a stronger arm...at least coming out of college.

He's playing in the NFLPA game so he'll most certainly get plenty of looks from scouts. He'll need to prove he can consistently make plays in an NFL-style offense and make the reads needed to succeed at the next level. It'll be a very big audition for him.Flipper wrote:If Kellen Moore gets a shot in the NFL...MJ should get a shot. Matt probably has a stronger arm...at least coming out of college.

So can I. Why anyone who has watched him these past several years would think he doesn't have a chance at catching on with an NFL team -- is kind of mystifying. He can make the throws and he's mobile enough to buy time or even run and do damage. No, he's not tall, but neither are several very good NFL QBs. He might not go very high in the draft (or at all) but I'd bet money some team will give him a shot. And they should.

Tonight is his last game. It's weird to think that he's never won a bowl game at BG. Yet. Hopefully he'll go out with a win and change that. Gonna miss him like crazy.
GO BG!!!
Re: Hope for Matt Johnson 6th Year
Yeah....he's not an NFL quarterback
Re: Hope for Matt Johnson 6th Year
Not even close and that has nothing to do with tonight's game.apollo wrote:Yeah....he's not an NFL quarterback
If he doesn't want a 6th year so be it, but I cannot fathom him playing a down in the NFL.
Re: Hope for Matt Johnson 6th Year
He was really pretty average the last 4-5 games. I'm not going to bother to look up his stats in that frame but I don't need to know they weren't very good.hammb wrote:Not even close and that has nothing to do with tonight's game.apollo wrote:Yeah....he's not an NFL quarterback

Re: Hope for Matt Johnson 6th Year
Really sucks to see Johnson go out like that at BG. Also tough to swallow that we didn't win a bowl with him either.
GO BG!!!
