I'd say a heck of a lot better for Toledo.. And any other West Div. team.

I don't share this negativity at all. You can dwell on the fact that Western Michigan almost didn't get this Cotton Bowl berth. I'll point to the fact that they did, and this is the second MAC school in five seasons to do it.
Put simply: This is the most equity we've ever had. Ten years ago, it was basically impossible for a MAC team to get a shot at a New Year's Day Bowl, no matter what it did on the field. It was just as true ten years ago as it was in Doyt Perry's day. So this is progress. Big time. Western Michigan, the No. 12 AP team, is getting a legit chance to play their way deep into the Top 10, territory no MAC school has ever gone before.
In a few years, it could be our Falcons in the Cotton Bowl, trying to play our way into the Top 10. It could happen. Just look at Western Michigan or Northern Illinois.
A program needs *** and **** star players to play at the top of the Div. 1 level. Western just lost their mojo man/momentum/top recruits for the next several years. It can happen occasionally (New Year's Day) but what has just happened at WMU will most always be the sad scenario in the MAC.

There's talk that UM asst and former Wolverine great Tyrone Wheatley is a front runner for the WMU gig. He's got a great rep as a recruited and he really knows MI and the Midwest.

While names like Cristobal...Les Miles...Tyrone Wheatley and other big name guys were being bandied about. Western went and hired Tim Lester.

Not all that sure if THUD is appropos since Lester was a BIG star at WMU not all that long ago. That being said not sure if anyone they hired could match the recruiting excellence of the past 3-4 yrs.

Re: Western Michigan
It's nice that he was a really good player 20 years ago...he hasn't really set the world on fire as a coach. Would he even have been a candidate if he had gone to WKU instead of WMU? Plus he's got ties to Cubit...a man who's name is synonymous with "Bleh" in Kalamazoo. The Broncos were looking for a statement hire...assurances that the Fleck momentum wasn't going to be wasted.
For all I know...this could be his time to shine. But I think that there might have been better fits for what they need.
