Miami
Re: Miami
I'm willing to give him the next two games only. Their top receiver is out for this game. Jinks has no excuse with a loss to Miami. Next game -Georgia Tech should win, but it's how we bounce back from a lost to Miami. If he puts on a poor showing in Georgia then he should be lefted in Georgia. New coach going into MAC play.
Re: Miami
What happens if we're 3-2 exiting Atlanta? I don't think it's likely, but how will you all feel if we're above .500 heading into the game against Toledo?

Knowing the type of offense G. Tech runs, with us giving up rushing yds by the bushel, and you give a hypothetical 3-2 record? I sure as hell wish you could be right. But I won’t be shocked to see 500 yds rushing that Sat.

I won't be shocked if they run all over us either. It was certainly a bit of a stretch for me to suggest that hypothetical, but I figured I would pose the question for the sake of conversation.Class of 61 wrote:mbenecke wrote:What happens if we're 3-2 exiting Atlanta? I wish we had David Konowalski to set the edge this year. He was set to play his final season here before he tore his achilles in camp. I think having a big, experienced defensive lineman would be huge right now. I hope he is granted a medical redshirt for the season and is allowed to return next year. Konowalski and an experienced Croslen together would be fun to watch.

I would think I was living inside an episode of The Twilight Zone and that none of this was real.
I know GT is coming off a loss, but their style of play could not possibly be a worse match up for us. For those worried about them running for 500 against us, I think you might be light on that estimate. That triple option is the kind of offense that when you can't stop it, you get demoralized and they just run over you relentlessly. We saw how the defensive effort in stopping the run went down measurably in the 2nd half against Maryland. If that happens in the first half against Tech, I shudder to think where the numbers might end up.
Re: Miami
Guys we play Miami this week. Some of you by your posts seem to think we play Ga Tech but we play Miami this week. Ga Tech next week.
Ga Tech plays Clemson this week and is coming off a loss to Pitt. They could easily be coming off 2 losses heading into our game next week.

Re: Miami
So Miami. It is kinda feeling like MTSU last year. They entered down their QB and best receiver, and their run game had been totally ineffective through three weeks, averaging like 60 rushing per game. They put up over 240 rushing yards on us and their backup QB throwing to a bunch of no name receivers had an awesome day. Down their stars, they lit up our defense.
Miami is down their top receiver and best playmaker, and their run game has yet to hit 100 in a game. If our team wants to prove they are better than last year, go out and win and have a solid defensive showing.

This is a fair comparison. Luckily, our QB isn't making his first career start this weekend.MarkL wrote:So Miami. It is kinda feeling like MTSU last year. To me, the key to success is fairly straight forward. We have offensive talent, we just need our offensive line to be consistent. And our defensive front 7 has to toughen up and shore up the run defense. If we can stop the run, we should be able to win some games this year, especially in the MAC.

There's nothing from the Jinks era that suggests the run defense is going to magically flip a switch and start containing opponents. I'd be beyond shocked if BG holds a team to under 150 yards rushing the remainder of the season. Miami knows what the weaknesses are and they're going to exploit the hell out of them.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: Miami
It's all about execution now. They just have to keep working and hopefully get it turned around.
Coach Pelini has said from the start that the defense would be a season-long work in progress. I don't expect the defense to be perfect at this point, but I do expect to be able compare them from Game 1 to Game 12 and be able to see a noticeable difference. I hope that his plan proves true and we see a different defensive team come November. I have my doubts/worries, but I won't give up on our guys. We're all we've got.
