Re: Attack Attack Attack Trainwreck Trainwreck Trainwreck
No, football needs to get better on the field and it HAS to get better off the field too. To ignore the arrests and act like is remotely close to 2013 or anything we've seen before is completely false. Jinks stinks on the field (historic losing) and the team has been a disaster off it (historic arrests). Jinks set the tone for all of this when assistants were arrested months after arriving, and the athletic department just did nothing.

One more question regarding the hiring of Mike Jinks, since you are obviously well connected. So Chris Kingston makes the hire of the highest paid employee at the university, on his own, without his associates even getting a chance to voice an opinion? Wow, Chris Kingston was as good as his ego if that is the case. We all could have asked three of our neighbors if hiring someone with no experience, no agent, and no immediate intentions of being a head coach, was a good idea, and each neighbor would have told us that might not be the best idea. Since, you are well connected, can you elaborate on why he left soon after the spring game to no longer be an athletic director? The timing seems to matter now that BGSU is seeking money for a buyout.

guest, the AD hires the head football coach. He or she would receive help from people like the President in the final decision. Others in the dept might be involved at some level, but the AD makes that hire with the approval of folks above him or her- not below.
That is how it works.
I have no idea why C Kingston decided to leave BGSU just a few weeks after the hire was announced for a job in a different part of the country and not in collegiate athletic administration. I don't know. Nor do I care. Moose is our AD.
I am only well enough connected to say I believe our core leadership team at BGSU Athletics is a good one. Some have been here for a couple years; some longer. I am looking at things beyond won loss in the 18 sports. I am also disappointed in the four football players who had to be removed, were arrested etc. Just like you. We can't have that in any program -while winning or losing. Yes I am a glass half full guy; I see what the collective effort of 425 student-athletes do for BGSU on and off campus. With alums, donors, friends, fellow students even in media and public relations. Taken in total, it is overwhelmingly positive. I just felt like posting because I thought folks were taking a football situation and reaching down or into things or folks that are not necessarily connected.
We have to fix football. Everyone knows it. And BG history tells me we will. Clawson was one heckuva hire and one heckuva coach. Blackney. Urban. We've had a few guys.
Go Falcons!

Fair enough. I guess I'm not near as glass half full. Especially given the ridiculous and downright irresponsible contracts Jinks and Huger have. If Chris Kingston can whiff (while also publicly humiliating BGSU multiple times) so bad on so many head coaching hires, I'm going to second guess his administrative hires also. Especially those where the person came directly from where he came from. Also, the entire organization is responsible for any bad hire in any business. Especially, when it is the highest paid, and the person hired is so ridiculously unqualified. Unfortunately, that's how it works. I do know college athletics is different. BG did give Mike Jinks 25K to further humiliate BGSU on national TV Saturday. Clawson was one heckuva hire, and it took some incredible dysfunction to ruin what he built so quickly. History shows BG will get back, but understanding that this should have never happened, might help prevent it happening again.

I have to agree. There's a lot of positives going on within the athletic department outside of the football and basketball programs. Women's soccer is off to a great start, men's soccer has had some recent success, Robyn Fralick is bringing excitement back to women's hoops, and the hockey program is back to being a competitive and is striving to be an elite program again. I also agree that the football program will be back to being competitive in the near future. The program has been a stepping stone for so many big time coaches, it's an easy sell. The onus is on Moose to find a qualified candidate to get it back there.falconfan1 wrote:guest, the AD hires the head football coach. What I don't agree with is dragging someone's name through the mud just because of an association with the previous AD. I've had the pleasure to meet Kit Hughes and other members of the department and they've been nothing but class acts and represent the university in a positive light. These people work hard, and often times it's a thankless job. We need to keep the focus on doing what's needed to improve the football program rather than throwing personal shots at people who honestly have done nothing wrong.

Re: Attack Attack Attack Trainwreck Trainwreck Trainwreck
If Women's Soccer matters so much why does the coach make 15% of what the football coach makes? Probably because you have never gone to watch them play. So, let's make BGSU the best women's soccer program in the MAC. Take funds away from football. Revenue sports matter more as do the results in those sports. Being a police officer is a thankless job. Give me a break.
The idea that these departments will under fund all the other programs to fund a football program, then point to those programs when the football program SUCKS as justification for the job they are doing is classic mind games.
