Jacobs had an odd throwing motion but it didn't matter because the guy hit anyone anywhere on the field. McDonald missed some very routine throws. Rusty. Hopefully will improve. And generally slow reads and release.
No, Rusty is Clark Griswold's son. McDonald is clearly not a good QB. And if he's the best we've got, we're in trouble, which it certainly looks like. We still have boys out there and we can't beat men with them. Case in point tonight.
Glad we tried to cut the baseball program because we needed to keep dumping money into that product. (Baseball is the one sport that has owned the UT rivalry, btw)
I’m officially in the Loeffler isn’t the guy camp. He better be able to recruit, because we aren’t out coaching anyone. Losing with a young team is one thing... getting blown out 3 of every 4 games isn’t exactly reflecting well on preparation.

I can’t think of worse QB play in my near 25 years of following BG. There have been some poor passers but they canceled that out by at least being good runners. I know it’s one game but this guy didn’t even look like a walk on. We were anxiously awaiting that? Man...
A thought I just had. Do you know who the current seniors are? That would be the 2017 recruiting class. That class was hailed as the best class in BG history. And it brought some great talent like Clair, Morris, and Doege.
But the top talent, the TE, never stepped foot on campus. A WR got kicked off the team a year later after a fight during spring break. Another got kicked off after mercilessly kicking a woman in the face.
Point is, a quarter of that class was gone after one year. Do you know what the class looks like now?
Cedric Mitchell
Jordan Murphy
Andrew Clair
Quintin Morris
Khobe Coleman
Walter Haire
Jerry Roberts
Sam Neverov
Derek Downs
That is 9 players left across seniors and redshirt juniors. From a class of 24.
And just for fun I looked up redshirt seniors. I didn't expect many because the class of 2016 had awful attrition and many players don't get redshirted. Here's what I found:
Jerry McBride III
Bryson Denley
Ty Redding
Tim Tanner Blair
Joe Ware
Now the good news is nearly all of those lists are on the two deep. The bad news of course is there are so few. The ghost of Mike Jinks is going to haunt this program for several years. When you have no senior leadership, you are missing the guys with the most experience, the most time in collegiate weightlifting and sprinting, and the most technique development. Seniors are and should be better and more complete players than freshmen.
Point is, you can't judge Loeffler until he has a near fully loaded team. He's got a bunch of freshmen. It will be a little while.
MarkL has spoken.
You may all now return to your daily lives.
Of all those candidates to replace the fired Jinks (mainly McElwain & Kehres) Bowling Green weirdly kept Pelini around initially, and went with Loeffler. Someone at BGSU has roots in Boston and especially at Boston College. The entire staff at BC was fired less than a year after BG hired Loeffler. This isn’t Clawson, it’s not even close.
Speaking of McElwain, he used a new qb that he recruited and beat Ohio University last evening.
I thought McDonald looked rusty, but I think he'll improve as this shortened season progresses. I certainly hope so - it was definitely rough, but I think he knows it and will be driven to get better. If he can improve and be a quality starter for us, it will lift the whole team.
I was encouraged by the defense. Still susceptible to big plays at times, but starting to seem like we have a positive direction now. Anderson, Biggers, Brooks, and Anders all flashed at times last night - and all should have at least 1 more year of eligibility remaining after this year, so it's something to build on. After the 1st quarter, which was certainly bad on the scoreboard (but a lot of it had to do with the offense/special teams giving them great field position, so I don't blame them too much), I felt like we got a lot better.
I will maintain that if we can block for Andrew Clair, he can run all over the MAC. There are times I wish he'd just hit the hole instead of dancing, but he's a homerun threat when he touches the ball so I can live with it. I am a little surprised we don't commit to the run a little more - but he also left in the early 3rd quarter and didn't return, so it's likely he would've been more involved in the 2nd half otherwise.
Offensive line really wasn't as bad as I expected them to be, with new starters and young guys all over.
Overall - it sucks to lose, especially to that team, but when I squint hard and think about the long-term, I'm able to see the foundation that Loeffler is building and I'm encouraged for 2 years from now.

I think this is right. I was encouraged by what I saw on defense last night.
Obviously, the offense was disappointing last night. McDonald looked awkward. Was some of that nervousness about the line ahead of him or receivers not being open? Perhaps. He may get better with more experience under center. The story on this offense is that it is complicated, so it may take some time to get really comfortable with it. I will say that I really watching it. I can imagine a very high ceiling on what this offense can do once we get good players experienced in it.
As I think David Briggs put it: Bowling Green is probably a year away from being a year away. We knew that. And it hurt to watch Toledo retake that trophy. But I'm somewhat encouraged overall.

If memory serves, didn't a fourth and five become a fourth and ten after a penalty? At that point, I was okay with kicking the field goal and taking that goose egg off the board.
Correct. After 1st and goal from the 1. 4th and 3 became became 4th and 8. Two awkward, hurried offensive plays on 1st and 2nd down, followed by confusion and a pass play that had two receivers and nobody open. After a penalty, on 4th down the kicker was run out very late and kicked the field goal a half second before the play clock expired. In summary, the entire series was a disorganized mess similar to what you see from poorly coached teams.

Loeffler may be well served by doing a few crunches or maybe taking a jazzercise class, but I would hardly call him portly. It's not like he's Tom Amstutz out there.
I was shocked the first time I saw Mcdonald's throwing motion. It looked more awkward than Charles Barkley's golf swing. I've never played the QB position but I've heard coaches tell QB's to hold the ball high and throw it out of their earhole. Mcdonald seems to throw it out of his belt loop. He takes a longer windup than a 1920's baseball pitcher. How many times is he going to get it stripped from behind by an edge rusher reaching around a tackle trying to block him? Wasn't Loeffler a QB himself and also a QB coach? Why has he not corrected that delivery? Some guys can get away with an unconventional motion but still be accurate. It didn't look like Mcdonald fit that category.
