I have zero issues with having a head coach be the offensive playcaller. Many of the best head coaches in the game call their own plays and manage to do so with great success.
Obviously you should lean on your coordinators heavily to devise each weekys gameplan, but oftentimes an innate ability to call plays is what lands these guys their jobs in the first place.
The issues here is that Loefflers scheme sucks, his playcalling sucks, and his ability to lead the team as a whole is greatly in question. Would those things improve if he hired a decent OC to take over playcalling entirely? Maybe, but unlikely. Hell unless he had a buddy from days gone by that was a good OC I don't think he'd even have the ability (or desire) to hire one.
Is what it is...riding out the string with a crap coach.
New OC
Re: New OC
Warner does, but only at the high school and semi-pro level.

Re: New OC
They'll be nothing more than consultants that SL will probably bounce ideas off of each week for game planning. Truly a title for those two in name only. Kinda feel bad for them.

Agreed. At this point it's just kind of a wait and see approach to see how this season goes. Maybe we'll be surprised.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 12:20 pmThey'll be nothing more than consultants that SL will probably bounce ideas off of each week for game planning. Interesting sniglet: That Buffalo game when SL got tossed, Warner called the plays. I asked what happened to Malone? Said he is really just an adviser….. so, if Warner gets a voice, maybe we sling it better??
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

Very interesting! Co-OC title means nothing if the HC is calling the playsroguewarrior wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 1:20 pm Interesting sniglet: That Buffalo game when SL got tossed, Warner called the plays. Western Kentucky has 3 Co-OC
Re: New OC
In Brandon's last couple of years he had two OCs. One for run plays, one for pass plays. Brandon would call what type of play he wanted to call (screen, short pass, draw, AT run, etc) and the coordinator would call in the specific play. Or at least that's how I seem to remember it from many years back. So co OCs can legit mean multiple play callers.
Not saying that is the case here. My guess is Loeffler is still calling the shots. But having someone who called a successful and aggressive gameplan advising him is a good thing.
