UCF is hiring Scott Frost as their next coach.

He famously led the Knights to a 13-0 “national championship” season in 2017 before leaving for the Nebraska job.

About a $300K raise and moving to a conference that has a much better national perception than the MAC.

So I’d say yes.

He must have really wanted out of Athens. I guess if you can do the unthinkable and win a championship at Ohio, somebody will want you.

Charlotte is investing $60M into football stadium renovations. Greater resources and access to the south for recruiting.

Oh I get it. I’m just welcoming BGSU33 to the reality of over achieving in MAC football and doing more with less. The coach is gone before the bus gets back to Athens. Then the more you have to hire the more you put decision making in administrative hands.

Tony Gibson DC at NC State is new Marshall coach.....they technically still have a coach but he's going to Southern Miss and his contract was up and wasn't going to be retained I guess.

Wierd situation.

But they apparently let him go into his contract year.

The OU job is one that might get Wright or Jacobs who would be my top 2.

It's a sad state of affairs when MAC coaches are leaving for mediocre AAC programs. The conference members are going to have to figure out ways to pay coaches more. This is why Loeffler isn't going anywhere because he's relatively cheap.

Correct. Loeffler is not going anywhere because he doesn’t cost more money and because nobody else wants him or will want him unless he would rip off probably multiple titles. It would take atleast another 5 years to get his career record back to .500. No other school could sell the hire based on his record alone.

Beyond competition with the money, which is certainly an issue on its own, I think the #1 issue the MAC has right now is the perception that it’s the league that plays funny football games on Tuesday nights. Nobody outside the MAC views it as any kind of serious football conference, and that’s brutal to overcome. Perception is everything - makes it harder to get recruits, makes it harder to get respect when you have good players (watch Fannin somehow not win the Mackey), makes it harder to get into the playoff conversation even if you have an insane season.

The MAC needs to quit leaning into that and find a way to show how serious it is about winning, or we’ll stay the 8th or 9th best FBS conference out of 9, and we’ll remain the laughingstock of college football.
