More talk on Jacobs from Scout, Inc. Though the 2nd round seems higher than I've seen lately.
Brett (LA): What is your take on Omar Jacobs? Which round do you see him and do you think he has a chance to be an impact player in this league?
SportsNation Todd McShay: I think Jacobs made a huge mistake leaving school early. He did not play well this past season and he was hampered by a non-throwing shoulder injury. Had he returned next season and put together another season like he had in 2004, Jacobs could have been a first-round prospect in the 2007 draft. Instead, I think he's looking at being selected in the second-to-third round range this year. Jacobs has a lot of upside because of his size, arm and athleticism, but he's too much of an enigma because of his inexperience, inconsistency and the system he comes from.

I agree with most of what he says except his blanket statement "He did not play well this past season". Yes, he wasn't perfect, but if you look at his numbers in 8 games, I don't know how that can be the bottom-line description of his performance last year.
I think his comments are self-contradictory. If our system is a question mark for Omar, what will playing another year here prove that 2004 and some of his performance in 2005 hasn't already?

As would I...but I have a soft spot since I loved him at OSU
Boston hasnt really played in 2 years
he was out due to injury at miami is his first year..Dont hink he played much last year either
However I think he will resign with Miami
As a Miami fan, I would love to see David resign, but I think the club has had enough of him and his glass knees. Its ashame to because he lost alot of weight, kept his mouth shut, and was poised for a big year two years ago before tearing his knee up. But with Nick Saban in charge, who knows, hes has shown he is willing to take a risk (Ricky and resigning Boston for example). I hope we keep him but if not, I hope he latches on with another team, because the potential he has is great.

This is where you have to disregard the opinion of someone like Todd McShay because you as BG fans actually know more about the situation than he does. McShay is only looking at numbers here. He's looking at 2004's phenomenal numbers and then looking at 2005 and thinking "gee golly, if he could have gone back and put up 2004 numbers, he would have been a 1st rounder in 2007". But who is BG losing? The majority of the offense. Were they going to pick right up where they left off without all the missing pieces? Highly doubtful. So in actuality Omar was in a situation where going to the NFL probably benefitted him more than coming back with most of his offense gone, and risk injury again. He could have dropped off the NFL map entirely by coming back and having a worse statistical year than 2005, or God forbid, tearing his ACL.

Great point, Flip.
